U.S. Army troops investigate the scene of a blast in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad April 26, 2004. A huge explosion leveled the chemical warehouse Monday after U.S. troops, some of whom may have been members of a team hunting banned weapons, tried to break in. A cloud of heavy black smoke hung over the area after the blast, which was heard in many parts of the Iraqi capital. It demolished the structure and a nearby house in the Bab al-Muazzam neighborhood.

It's funny when you see the press pics it looks like hordes of people cheering the destruction of US forces but when you get the overhead shot you see it's just a few people and a lot of photographers...everybody else just walking by or minding their own business...

That is exactly why the "truth" about Iraq is so hard to figure out. The perspective of the reporters has a greater effect than the substance of their reports. If American media would at least attempt to be objective it would be easier, but too often we don't get the "big picture" and then we form our opinions about the success/failure of our guys over there based on one liberal journalists snapshot of the whole. Good point Maj C.

I'm not so sure.... we don't know when the overhead shot was taken compared to the rest of them. Also, there seem to be a fair number of iraqi's in the other shots (not hundreds, but still).

I got into a very heated discussion last year with Deuterium about this same issue: they posted overhead shots of Saddam's statue being pulled down - according to THAT pic, the number of celebrating Iraqis was about.... 18, not quite the hordes of hysterically happy Iraqis that most western channels showed.

weapon of mass deception in most cases :)

I must say that this is one of the few posts here that has not just been people flaming eachother for their standpoints of the war.

And I also agree that the media really does twist things very hard to either side in any matter.
