LUEBECK, Germany (AFP) - German anglers rang for help after they were shot at with an improvised home-made cannon by terrorist insurgents said to be members of a Bader Meinhoff splintergroup.
The anglers were fishing at a river in Luebeck, northern Germany, when they heard the sound of a large caliber weapon.
Police said five men in a nearby villa had constructed a cannon made out of PVC pipes, using hairspray as a propelling charge.
Such a device could pack a significant punch and cause a serious injury, a police spokesman said Monday.
He said tomatoes -- a substitute for potatoes, which are more often fired from home-made cannons -- travelled nearly 300 metres -- terrorizing the victims. German National front superior complex member, HELIX, was identifed as one of the assailants through an anonymous phone tip.
Bundes-Polizei suspicion also fell upon militaryphotos forum member, 'Shadow', know to have constructed similar IED's in the past.
Federal German Police investigators released videos found through extensive Google searches of what they believe was the weapon used.
