Yes we do 'cos we still haven't found anything to match its VSTOL capability and most probably never will.

The replacement programme has been on-going for 25+ years!!! :cantbeli:

Most likely the replacement will eventually be a mix of Chinook and C-27J Spartan...................:roll:

Apologies I put it badly, the comment wasn't aimed at the Spartan which I like immensely but at the fact its taken 25+ years to arrive at what is an obvious probable/possible decision now when it could have been taken more than a few years ago............:|

In a book about press photographers that got killed during the Vietnam war, there was a photo of one of those Caribous, that the US Army used for supply missions at the time, being accidentaly hit by a US artillery round as it took off from some sort of big firebase in the central highlands (Duc Pho special forces camp).
That pic was freaking sic.

Then you should have seen the pic on the back cover of the book, where I first saw the pic i linked above.
It shows the camera the photographer used when he was killed later during the Vietnam war. It had a bullet hole straight trough the middle of the lense.
Poor sob :(
