Robert Fisk- "The Conquest of the Middle East"

I always enjoy listening to Robert Fisk, his knowledge on middle east affairs is so extensive. It reminds me of how unforgivably ignorant we westerners are.

He is a rampant, leftist, "pro-arabic" journalist. A self-induced self-hater.

As long as you speak for yourself I'm sure you're right.

Leftism is no wisdom.

Well, he's a very well thought out guy who's been to most, if not all, of the places that he discusses and taken the census of the people there and he makes his conclusions based on them. He makes a lot of good points which I respect but simply don't agree with, but atleast he's putting himself out there and making his voice known unlike alot of monday-morning quarterbacks who dictate self-rightous policy from the comfort of their news-desk in New York or London.

I do not think that wisdom and inteligence have a political orientation. But I think you have...
Critics that you made is lame. No arguments only stupid sugestion
"leftism", "proarabian"

Which equals saying that there is no right and wrong.

He is known as a strongly biased journalist. Should anyone spend time arguing why the US isn't behind car bombings in Iraq?

A self-induced self-hater.

you mean he makes an effort to hate himself and blames himself for hating himself?

Leftism is no wisdom.

We haven't see the right wing in america display much wisdom in recent years

He is known as a strongly biased journalist.

Its not what a journalist is known as which is important, its weather or not their articles are factually accurate.

Put this left/right, right/wrong nonsense aside for one moment and consider things as good or bad instead, makes life a lot easier.

If people had actually listened to what someone like Fisk had to say before the iraq invasion, things may have been a lot different....

Blah Blah Blah hindsight. So rightious is Mr. Fisk. Would have., could have, should have...

But I do respect his "Can't Do" attitude. Take him for a walk.

I dont agree with this guy's point of view, I don't particularly like him, and I never agree with anything rb132 says. However, I will say that Robert Fisk does make a valid point about asking ourselves why our enemies are committed to our destruction. This is something that is often overlooked, and it can and should affect the way we view ourselves and them.

We can violently disagree with those reasons and we can even hate the reasons - but we should know exactly what they are.

I think that sometimes we take the view that it does not matter....in the short term that maybe right as the bullets are flying, long term in terms of planning it probably does matter a lot.

He's more credible and knowledgible than you could ever imagine for yourselves; with your "Blah Blah Blah" comebacks and zero experience- intellectual input.

Now, I'm sure you'll sit down and watch the videos, instead of posting small talk. Maybe some day you could be able to write a sentence with an actual point that confronts his own ideas and experiences.

A self-induced self-hater

You are not a good psychologist, if not at all. Moreover you didn't watch his speech, hence the entire off-topic "dialectic" of yours.

He is known as a strongly biased journalist.

For biased persons, he's perceived as being biased himself, true.

Should anyone spend time arguing why the US isn't behind car bombings in Iraq?

I'd suggest that "anyone" needs to spend time watching the videos, instead of not doing so.

As is always the case on this site with a report from some so-called 'leftist' journalist, the first crop of posters utterly fail to address the article/story/accusations. The typical Right-wing response of "That guy's a bastard anyway" is the best anyone can come up with: as if shooting the messenger will alleviate the bad news.

I'll take people's criticisms of Fisk seriously when they come from someone who's spent their entire adult life intimately involved in the Middle East, being at ground zero for every war, coup, political intrigue, negotiation, bombing, riot etc

OK, granted, I don't agree with every word he says. And I've only read his articles, not his books. But the one thing which always strikes me about him is that breadth of his knowledge about every little tiny detail in the ME. I get the felling that if I started naming notable figures at random he would either have interviewed them, befriended them or else know exactly what they had for breakfast ten days ago. Seems to me that someone who posses such a wealth of information may be worth listening to. Like I said, I'm not in complete agreement with his conclusions, but that doesn't negate the fact that the dude obviously knows his ****.

That was excellent viewing.

Thanks to the OP.

Mr. Fisk is the first person who I have seen with a credible knowledge of the Iraqi insurgents, the real insurgents, the ones who will eliminate AQ in Iraq after kicking us out.
