Ive got more, but I want to get the go ahead before posting them in case there are those who feel this is a breach of opsec. I doubt they will, as any Iraqi can see this just by standing next to the road, and all faces have been edited but...

lucky bastards... the humvee by the way, has been modified in the rear to acommodate more troops , surrounded by ballistic plates, and heavily armed.

Looks like they added their own armor on the lift-back section. Looks to be spaced as well - to help defeat RPG's?

Pretty cool, doesnt look like your average hummer!

Nice to see this vehicle having some form of protection for the gunner from snipers... Do all new HumVees come with this enclosure?

It's a field mod that is not really that uncommon, but sure isen't standard either. There are also other turrets beind fielded that have a much higher profile armor plating and armored glass windows in the turret sides (looks a bit like isreali armor). So a whole bunch of modifications and official designs are fielded to protect the gunner against snipers and IED's

frost is right.. most of what u see comes from the weld shop, some guys put the windsheild parts ontop of the turret box, (which sux for using thermals at night) while others put it half way so they can shoot over the top... some use those little windshields insted of the full plate on the gun mount.... its use is good against ied's and snipers only if youre not facing them in a static pos. as for rpg's, (as a gunner) i wouldnt want to test the theory.... and for ied's its not always the debris that gets ya, air pressure from the blast can knock you out cold, its kinda like gettin the wind knocked out of you...

1) Why are you taking pictures at an ECP? Isn't there a huge sign saying, "No Pictures" like every other Coalition ECP in the stan and Iraq?

2) Do they know you took their picture?

I have no issue with these kind of images personally as long as faces and any identifying marks or insignia are blurred. Anything that is a little more 'unusual' either in regard to unit or vehicle please run the images past me or another mod first.

It's not up to the MODs if you post the pics, you need to go to those guys and ask them if it is alright for you to post pics of them on the internet, personally I wouldn't want my pic put on the internet unless I put it there. My 2 cents

I don't that the basic Iraqi terrorist has an internet connection and is selecting his next target based on the pictures he can see here. And if the faces and other things that can ID them are blacked out, than what's the deal about PERSEC?
The US military uploads tons of high-res pictures every fricking day on their official websites often even mentioning the names of the soldiers involved.

in some places pics can save your arss just as easy as they can nail it....
and everybody knows when guys come into your ao or fob everyone breaks out the camera.....

somewhere i have a pic of a no picture sign, its pretty cool....
just think of it this way guys without pics and vids when we're not suppossed to have them there would be no "raw" music videos to watch and share....

NCOs carry cameras when working up front to photograph vehicles involved in EOF, suspicious vehicles/personnel passing by, and because there hasnt been a week gone by that some officer somewhere hasnt asked for a picture of a new pop-up barrier, or the 100m intervals marked off, etc etc. My camera takes about 200 pictures on the memory card so theres usually a little space left over :) As far as no pictures being taken, as a matter of fact, there is no sign. To the best of my knowledge, that rule exists to avoid allowing enemy personnel to get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes defenses and general ECP operations and to make their own recon runs of specific objects. If youll notice, no pictures I display show anything behind a certain point for a reason. All the pictures I post are readily viewed by any schmo walking past the ECP. I work there, and I dont feel posting the pictures endangers my life, so I dont see the problem. If the mods say theyre cool with it as long as theyre blurred, ill post the rest later. Where were you opsec people when I got into an argument with the NCOIC two weeks ago for giving AFN the go ahead to walk around the ECP unescorted filming whatever they wanted?

Now there's a buncha acronyms I wouldn't mind knowing:
NCOs - Non-Commissioned Officers
EOF - End-Of-File (???)
ECP - Entry Control Point (hint above)
NCOIC - Non-Commissioned Officer-In-Charge (not sure)
AFN - Air Force Navigator? Allied Foreign National? :(

And on the issue of posting the rest of the pics, if there's gonna be a votation, I say post 'em all as long as all the issues are covered. :D

The insurgents do have intelligence gathering capability you know. But L-U seems happy that there are no VRMs (another one for you Sand Man) in his pics to give them away. I suppose the true question is how do his oppos on the ECP feel about their location being posted on the net and if the SF blokes want their use of a particular ECP to be known.

To be honest, I'd be dubious about any c**t taking pictures of me. I dont like it back here in the UK! I'd be pretty f**king annoyed if I saw photos of me driving though an ECP in theatre appearing on the net. So, even if insurgents can't work out where the ECP is to target them/you, I'm pretty sure the SF blokes can!

My view, dont take pics in theatre.

What they don't know can't hurt you and what they don't know they don't know can hurt them! ;)

wow you must be bored, or don't get out the wire much to be taking pics of SF dudes. My two cents with the pics is don't post it if they don't know about it. The ODA guys I'm around hate having there pics taken unless it's for personal use. The guys would pretty much tell you to stop being a d1ck rider. And start taking pictures of cool stuff like tipping your buddies over while there in the portopotty. By the way at least with us that hmmmwv looks standard issue. Well besides the rear modification. KBR usually modifies all that stuff for us when we bring it up north.

Well screw it, im not gonna post the rest for the simple fact that despite the fact the individual behind the minigun smiled and waved at us when we snapped his picture, I do not have his or anyone else's express permission to put it on the internet, edited or not.

A few pointers for you asses being openly hostile about it, however:

Am I bored? Yes, sometimes... unfortunately(?) my job requires an absurd amount of vigilance as we go days, even weeks with nothing at all happening. I've experienced drive-bys, IEDs , mortar attacks, snipers, RPGs, etc etc etc. So what the **** does it matter if I im outside the wire or not. Im sick of morons who feel the length of their **** should be conspicuously tattooed on their forehead saying POG, fobbit, "you never leave the wire". When you've got the balls to read an INTSUM stating that there is credible evidence to suggest sniper attacks against your specific ECP are imminent and then stand in a tower all day with no ballistic protection (save IBA, kevlar, of course), come see me. When you've had that chilling realization that you operate a relatively unchanging, unmoving, RPG magnet where it is your job to allow people who may very well want to kill you drive up to you, come see me. I watch infantry go out and then come back during my shift with time to spare... translation? Most patrolling units work 1/3 the hours I work and they at least get to sit down while en route to and from work.

I could go on, but theres no point.. it wont change anything on this forum and thats fine. I learned to live with the status NOT being 11b brings you a longass time ago. But hell, even the guys leaving our ECP everyday have more respect for us "POGs" then some of you which leaves me wondering what it is exactly that you do. It seems to me, that anyone who ever says "you dont leave the wire" usually feels they have something to prove, and since I dont... well...

Oh and PS, dont take this is as a half-assed reverse psychology trick or anything but... wouldnt my taking pictures send off a flare in the heads of you mental giants that MAYBE, this means its rare... gasp, even the FIRST time ive seen SF roll through my ECP? So insurgents, if youre reading this hoping to plan out your next attack against their convoy: good, stay the **** away from me.

PS: after I stepped back and reread what I just wrote, I realize its one big bitch. Ive been trying to avoid bitching as of late.. bad for morale, discipline, etc... but its ok here, I think. Im off duty and if I dont bitch to someone my head will explode before I make it back home. :)

i have to admit, i was one of those guys leaving the gate everyday to sit on OP's or patrol the ao and thought to myself must be nice to be those guys in the towers at the gate, stayin on the fob everyday gettin to shower everyday, laundry everyday gettin your hairs cut everyday, basicly lookin all clean/cut in the chow hall,
then you see us walk in, uni's drenched in sweat, boots unbloused, 5o'clock shadow, comin off an 8hr-12hr shift, dirty face and hands, smellin like well not really smellin cause the sand has covered it.... just after an IED went off next to us or after an engagement/firefight with insurgents that rpg'd attacked one of our OP's and the chowhall guy ask us for our ID and wheres our weapon at, "friggin pog"....
and things like well they make the same amount of money we make not leavin the fob and able to get CAB's cause some nco is good with words, articulate on paper but we go outside the wire everyday not knowing if one or 2 or all of us will come back in one piece or alive or alive but in pieces....

i understand what you mean... just keep doin what you do....

LibertyUnites
03-10-2007, 08:28 PM
i guess the sand and heat you experience must be different from that which we get around the FOB. I think Einstein explained how that works in one of his theories of relativity... ill look it up later so that I can fully appreciate how what you just said is different from what I go through regularly. Except the 8 hour shifts, of course... I wouldnt mind one or two of those :)

Oh well, if my first rant didnt get through to you (or maybe you were too busy getting the length of your **** tattooed on your forehead and didnt read it) then nothing I say now will... so have a nice day.

try not to think about the negative things all the time and just know noone is promised tomorrow (not the gate guys and not the guys that leave the wire) and you have the same threat in that static post cause just think about this, insurgents might not know what we do everyday or places we go but theyre always watching you and have figured you out....

like i said befor keep doin what youre doin, stay safe....

I pretty much have to take back everything I said about working hard anyway because when I showed up for work today, I found out I had been given the position of SOG for some new towers. and the damn job is so cake i even have time to stop off at my living area (like im doing right now)... i think ive found religion :)
