Ethnically I'm part Ashkenazic Jew, part Celtic, and my nationality is 100% American. So there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying that you're part Celtic. While I understand that you misread some of the previous posts, your response still doesn't make sense, because Celtic CAN describe someone's ethnicity.

I find that whole ancestral ethnicity thing so bloody socially contrived.

The Celts are long gone and people walking around today ranting about their bloodline mix bore the pants off me. Any way we are getting into pedantic squabbling – I admit I misconstrued the conversation, as I tend to read things fairly quickly and if people want to walk around sprouting long lost tribal heritage – so be it.

Actually if you want to be like that, people from Iraq would be called Babylonian, or Messopotamian.
Arabic describes the whole group of people from the region.
