without using ATBM!!!

some genius geek on Chinese military forum said there is

plenty of way to do it , to make the missile less accurate!
(not goin detail now, probably just some BS anyway)

Can i requese some data on short~midium range TMB from China and all

the ATBM from Taiwan!

antitactical ballistical missile you mean?

In the ATBM field, China has deployed three batteries of Russian-made SA-10Bs (S-300) around Beijing and a phased-array radar complex provides a ballistic missile early warning capability. Its Russian manufacturer claims that the SA-10B has an ATBM capability roughly similar to that of the U.S. Patriot PAC-2, although such claims have yet to be supported. During the 1996 "missile tests" off Taiwan, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) deployed SA-10Bs. According to a U.S Naval Intelligence analysis, this deployment was:

...both for exercise play and as a precautionary, defensive measure. The Chinese may have been concerned that Taiwan might miscalculate the nature and intent of the exercise.

These ballistic, cruise, and ATBM capabilities increasingly provide Chinese military leaders with a full spectrum of advanced systems to buttress offensive or defensive operations in future crises or conflict scenarios.

Seems to be Russian Missles and presumably Chinese radar.

I think he's trying to say what methods can Taiwan use to effectively
render the Chinese tactical ballistic missile useless, without the use
of "hard kill" methods such as the PAC-3 missiles.

GPS jamming? In my opinion unlike the cruise missiles, all ballistic
missiles are pretty inaccurate, that's why they put nuclear warheads in
them to compensate the inaccuracy.

I really do not know what the CEP of the Chinese TBM's is but with inertial guidence systems getting better by the year I would say that its getting smaller all the time.

Yep I see that now... Stupid me :bash:

I think s/he is after:
ATBM Tech Of Taiwans
TBM Tech Of China.

I.E. see if Taiwan could protect itself from Chinese Missles.

OK I would say one, yes, they have some damn nice American AEGIS Cruisers. BUT, as China has a couple of THOUSAND Missle launchers pointed at Taiwan, you cant stop em all, and login only goes to say they will take out the AEGIS then pound the rest of the country / military / there targets.

Taiwan is defended by the fact that the UN and Just about every country involved (atleast every militarily powerful one) would instantly declare war, hello world war 3.

I sure as hell hope China dont try to invade or get an aggerssive enoughleader which requires a first strike attack on the Chinese, that would be the worst situation.

Now correct me if i am wrong on this, but Taiwan doesn't have any AEGIS class ships yet. They are trying to buy them, but we have not sold them any yet. The first ship that would carry the AEGIS radar systems would be the Tien Tan and that is not due to delpoy until 2008 (assuming they get approval for the systems and can then afford them).

Finally, if China wanted Taiwan, they could attack and take control of the Island in a matter of a day or so. It is a bargaining chip they are holding against the US for things like MFN status and other trade issues. Yes we would be forced by law to intervene, but this is not a scenario that is likely to occur. It doesn't make sense for China to risk losing everything they have gained in the last 10 years.

Russian Iskander-E ballistic missiles, with ranges of about 300km have CEPs of about 20m. With a cluster warhead or nuclear or chem or bio warhead that is easily accurate enough...

The use of GPS signals as well as optical and tercom methods both balistic and cruise missiles have become very capable.

Actually, the US nukes are rather accurate. Nuke or no nuke, if you have a target variation of less than 100 yards from a continent or two away, that's pretty damn good using 1970's technology. The US missiles had better accuracy therefore they could use smaller, lighter warheads.

I think this has already been said but if China really launched an all out strike against Taiwan, all the PATRIOT batteries the US now has couldn't stop but about 10% of it. Missile defense is really only effective in "specific asset" protection. Pick out the things you "have" to save and protect them. The rest you just have to let fall where they may.

When you add in the fact that a great deal of TBM's and ICBM's have MRV capability then this really renders the missile defense argument moot. You can't shoot them all down. Miss one and ....well, you know.

Yes, Taiwan is a big red bargaining chip. If you want to worry about missile defense just move your map a little, to Korea!

Yep researched a bit and found the US is still draggin it's heels on the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, I mean, it only too 12 years to get F-16's, they werent latest tech, and they didnt get too many (too tired to find numbers).

http://www.cndyorks.gn.apc.org/yspace/articles/bmd/aegis_for_taiwan.htm (7th march 2004)

A U.S. Defense Department spokesman said Friday that a newspaper was incorrect when it reported that the Pentagon has agreed to sell warships equipped with the advanced Aegis radar system to Taiwan.

The whole selling arms to Taiwan and the US/China situation with it all seems political now, just idle threats (do that and we'll give em AEGIS!, do this and Ill invade!) with no real want for either side to do it.

Goddamn Politicians thinkng defense is a circus show.
