Hi there,
I am writing a research paper for a history class and I am doing it on 3 operations, Torch in North Africa, the raid at Dieppe, and of course D-Day. More specifically the lessons learned from the first two and how they were applied to D-Day. If anyone knows of any good books or websites that I could use, I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

combineddops.com for dieppe raid

center for military history and the combat studies institute will probably get you info on torch and d-day

you could also try looking for the d-day museum online and then follow the links.

research is fun.

Define your terms... "assault" and "raid" aren't necessarily the same thing.

You might also examine the Pacific theater - there were dozens of amphib operations there, and the lessons learned contributed to doctrine that was used in Europe as well.

You might want to include, instead of Dieppe or Torch, the landings in Sicily and Salerno. The use of both close air support and also naval gunfire were incredibly important to both landings and figured prominently in the Normandy landings.

You could use the book "Six Armies in Normandy" by John Keegan, one of the true great writers of military history. He has a section on lessons learned from Dieppe.
