Because the liberal pu$$ies are too afraid to respond with equal violence, and the courts are too relaxed in my opinion. Seems like the laws are there to protect the criminal's rights rather than the victim's rights. It's not just like that in California. It's happening in every major city, and it's only a matter of time when it spills over into the rural areas. It's just my opinion, so if no one agrees with it, that's cool.

Gang problems are not limited to certain area of the city - I was surprised to learn that 18th street gang extends its territory as far as Beverly Wood, which is an upscale neighborhood adjacent to the Beverly Hills. Known gang members are prohibited from gathering into groups more than 2 in the area of their operation, so they choose to gather in our neighborhood - which is only 2 blocks north... So you can't hold your gang meetings on the 18th street - please move up the street to the Wilshire Local Starbucks. Another 2 miles north and people are all too busy snapping pics of Brittney's cesarean scars while she's getting out of a limo or paparazi's blocking traffic for a dime a dozen celebrity pics for a miriad of tabloids...

City has recently evicted a family of gang members down the block from myself - exercise of imminent domain and the house was up for sale within the month... Certainly beats having the house shot up once every three months but makes you wonder where these individuals go?

The suburbia move is old news. The fact that most of the original inner-city gangs are now mostly in Inland Empire and other LA County suburbia is also old news - the homocide rates are nice and clean in West LA area, yet tend to show similarity in number of homicides between Compton and say smaller towns back east. It's not really a question of moving out of LA or seeking a "safe" community out of a big city - the easy solution for everything is to leave or so it has been...

South LA gets all the publicity... And department funding... Most of the Los Angeles City has some of the better police protection (or so I found out) - we have our own gang unit on top of LAPD presence and a direct contact card on my fridge, Neighborhood Watch that know everything (including our building cats names) and Sheriffs from near by cities cruise on by. Last time there was a shooting, the street got a cruiser in under 2 minutes, followed by a helicopter, 2 plain clothes and more cars - all within 5 minutes time. Last time I needed Sheriff in Victorville - I had to wait an hour and a half and when he arrived I didn't know if I wanted to pinch his cheeks or ask him for assistance. My only gripe with LA is a reluctance of the chiefs to issue carry permits - both Sheriff and the PD Chief...

The homicide rate is higher among State Troopers than that of the plagued cities - I even heard an alarming statistic of State Park Rangers falling victim to ruralization of the urban gansters.

The victims, and probably the offenders, are all Pakistanis. In LA they are black or hispanics.

I would laugh at your statement if it were not a serious issue, but it is. There is no "Reconquista" as you call it to turn every neigborhood into a gangbangers paradise or any organized conquest of the Southwest by "Hispanics". There are so many factual problems with your blanket and ignorant statement that it would take some serious typing and explanation on my part, but frankly I find that most people in the world have their minds made up about the character of a group of people and use whatever logic possible to impose that viewpoint as being objective and factual. Illegals do not comprise the majority of gangbangers today at all given that most would have been deported about now. In fact most are U.S. born citizens, new arriving illegals have no way of simply getting into the gang and drug business because they usually come over to work and support their families back home attracting the attention of the authorities is the last thing on their minds. It is not to say that there are not those who have involved themselves into such activities, but they are not in the majority. I think you would find it interesting to track who some of these drug dealers happen to be and you would find it that white affluent neighborhoods have their fair share of the drug trade and reap the most profits in comparison to the violent byproduct associated with it.

It is not really a low level race war at any rate. It is purely based upon driving the fear of another rival gangs members who happen to be black or hispanic. It is a strategy being employed by both sides of the drug trade in order to consolidate territory in their neighborhoods out of fear of being targeted by a rivals drug business or the police. Gangs have instigated the perception that there is a race war in order to obtain local support and recruits to protect their profits from a rivals drug trade. There are LA gangs out there that are made up of the most diverse group of individuals that it would astound me for one of their members to not be openly gay. It is sad that many kids in those neighborhoods actually believe the crap about blacks or hispanics trying to kill each other over race and so a self -perpetuating fear based shield has been created for the and by the gangs in order to reap the most drug profits. It will probably become a low level race war given at how it has begun to perpetuate itself into real hate and fear of another race.

You got it all backwards - there is a spill off of "Reconquistas", or whatever you choose to call them, into more rural areas and a movement to "revive" some of the inner city areas - aka "you want us to buy half a million dollar condo where?" shock... Population of LA is both multi-racial and cultural - which introduces its own problem areas of ethical influence and re-enforced stereotypes - though staying around not much longer than a few generations... LA Chinatown is full of Vietnamese in modern age, NY's Little Italy has been overrun by influx of Chinese from Hong Kong in the 1990's and historic Hollywood is now mainly a Russian town... I'm currently residing in a Jewish neighborhood - I don't feel invaded or persecuted somehow, living amongst Jewish majority... Gang problem is a gang problem. Yes, there is a rise of blacks vs latinos violence yet I fail to see how immigration reform is going to help or to stop it... Following your logic, arresting only Latino gangbangers and leaving black and white gangbangers should solve the problem? I see no good coming from either gangs and really don't care for their well being.

Finally, the flow of populace into California is not only of Hispanics - it's also from the rest of the nation, like Midwest. One morning I woke up and there was an invasion of Kansas and Ohio license plates in my street - I could use the same cars as example of naturalization as a month later these plates were mostly Californian and none was the wiser, of this "reqonguistas". LA has been absorbing different cultures like any big city since its beginnings and no other city is best suited for diffusing swarms of immigrants... It's hard enough to find an LA Native - but then people are free to move around as they choose to.

I would not be too worried as long as you don't say something stupid like "where you from" or respond to that question by saying something along the lines of a gang name. If you ever do end up lost and in the "wrong side of town" just ask for directions from someone who seems to be decent that you got lost and are looking such and such place. It depends on who you run into though. I would not stop and ask for directions from a distinctly (KKK)White gang neighborhood and you happen to be something other than white.

Here in Houston it's not as bad as LA when it comes to gangs. Even driving in the wring neighborhood will not get you killed. I been to every shathole part of town and never really have problems with any gang bangers. I'm also packing all the time and staying vigilant.

The attitude is "that does not happen in the USA". Well got news for ya....LA is not the only major city/metropolitan area with such problems. Our police departments nationwide are either undermanned, or not deployed properly. And, yet, no one seems to care that our wonderful country is falling apart right before our eyes. Instead, we americans are too worried what is going on in other countries, than taking a look whats happening in our own front yard.

The gang problem in LA, and the rest of the country is fueled by several things....lack of jobs, the drug trade(believe it or not, these go hand in hand)high poverty, large amount of undocumented residents, and a high amount of dispair because of poor conditions.

A terribly sad incident but last I heard it was likley a personal vendetta between the shooter and one of the employees of the pizza resturant where it began (one witness said she recognized the shooter as a former employee) and the auxiliaries (who are unarmed civilian volunteers with radios and some police powers) were unfortunely in the wrong place at the wrong time.
