Iran President Fails to Attend UNSC Session Due to US Obstruction

Tehran (http://www2.irna.ir/en/news/line-22/key-79/), March 23, IRNA –

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad failed to attend the UN Security Council session on Iran due to Washington's denial of visa to the his entourage.

''Due to the evident and deliberate failure of the American officials in issuing visa to Dr. Ahmadinejad's entourage and flight crew, the president could not attend the UN Security Council session,'' said Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini Friday.
President Ahmadinejad was due to lead a delegation to the UNSC session on Iran's nuclear case on Saturday and defend Tehran's stance in peaceful use of nuclear energy and against issuance of another anti-Iran resolution.
UK, France and US as three veto holders have announced they will put the draft resolution on Iran to voting at the Security Council Saturday.
This procrastination in issuing entry visa to the Iranian delegation proves that Washington had planned to issue the visas at a time to make it impossible for them to attend the UNSC session on time due to the long geographical distance.
According to the international rules, the US as the host government is obliged to issue visa to all delegates willing to attend the United Nations sessions in New York.
This is not the first time the US fails to fulfill its responsibility or deliberately delays visa issuance so that the delegates would be unable to attend the UN session on time.

The United States issued visas in two batches Friday at its embassy in Bern, Switzerland, but Iran's U.N. Ambassador Javad Zarif said it was too late. "There was no time for the visas to be sent to Tehran in time for the president to be able to fly to New York," Zarif told *******. But he said Iran's foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, who had received his visa early Friday, would take a commercial flight to New York to address the council.
Richard Grenell, a spokesman for the U.S. mission to the United Nations, challenged Zarif's statement.
"Too late for what?" Grenell asked. "The meeting hasn't even been scheduled yet. How can they say they are too late to come if the Security Council has not given a date and time for the event?"
Zarif said some of the visas were issued early in the morning in Bern but the remainder not until near 6 p.m. local time, which did not leave enough time to take the passports back to Tehran in time for the president's plane to take off.

Ah gat dang it. I went and spent $450 on a new red dress so I wouldn't look so frumpy at the reception dinner. Now the Patron Saint of the Beige Member's Only Jacket isn't even coming - why should I even bother? I'll just be stuck next to those Italian bastards, and after a few drinks, they'll be trying to look down my hairy cleavage again.

Maybe if they didn't kidnap our diplomats and destroy our embassy in their country we could have issued one to them on time in Iran. Interesting how different the stories are presented.

I think they built Great Satan Park in our old compound. Have to ask Kraf?

The former US embassy in Tehran could soon see a new chapter in its troubled history, with a top Iranian commander calling for the downtown compound to be turned into a "Great Satan Park". "We would be able to nicely show off the American crimes to citizens strolling in the park," General Mir-Faisal Bagherzadeh told the official news agency IRNA.
"The former American Den of Spies should become the park of Great Satan," said the general, who heads the Sacred Defence Foundation - an influential propaganda body set up to commemorate the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

Then Fars with ironic literary brilliance.

"It appears that the American officials have resorted to obstructionism in pursuit of their unilateral policies and in order to prevent the honorable president of the Islamic Republic of Iran from elaborating Iran's stances and revealing realities."

Somehow the Iranians had managed to piss off the Russians.
Putin recalled its nuclear power technical teams back to Russia. I think this action would not have happened without consulation of the 5 veto powers in the Security Council.

This is a big deal for the Iranians. They are dependent on Russian industrial aid and trade.
