About a weapon, Paskau RMAF Commandos using bushmaster M4 A4 and SIG 551/552 besides the old smg in their stock ie MP5 family and M4A1. I have a few photo this commando with the M4A4 and SIG but i need times to upload to photobucket. About VAT 69 they are using M4 and MP5 family. In Timor Leste they are using M16 A1 due to limited no of M4 in their stock and also they might think that MP 5 is not suitable to be use in Timor due to limited range. Sorry if my english is not very good.

No, we are still using the AUG as the standard weapon for regular troops but you are right that plans call for its replacement by the Colt M4. When? No timeline announced for that.

I haven't worked with enough jungle units to give you a decent answer.

All I can say is I learned a lot about tracking from them (they had some Borno tribesmen in their ranks as instructors as well). Nice people, very friendly.

I don't think it's only the M4 . I heard that they're also taking in shipments for a number of M16A3's . The standard issue rifles for the USMC .

IMHO Royal Malaysian Armed Forces is one of the best jungle forces, just becos they have to fight the communist insurgents until 1989.they have vast experinces in CIW.Indonesians r much respected forces is becos of it's genius ideas in executing their mission. For an eg. there was once the Indonesians Anti-Riot Units came to exchange their experinces with the M.Forces, they have one kinda weird tactics which the M.Forces would drop their jaws...a 400c.c scrambler motobike with a pillon rifleman behind to do their job...WoW...u sure don't see that kinda unit here. The PASKAL was trained by the Indonesians counterpart in Surabaya.IMO Filipinos special forces would be highly commended..not only until today they still fight the communist, they also have to face the revolutions, islamic factions, abu sayaf,Moros,etc.etc...very experince forces but very ill-equipped.Most of their weapons r made at the pinoys backyard.I ve a couple of frens from the PSG,WoW...these guys r great warriors.IMHO i would rate the Pinoys to be the 1st,follows by Indonesians, malaysian the 3rd...Thais ve much more to learn from their recents failed strategy. All these r just my personal opinion.p-)

One more things also got to know...buying of battle-rifles ve something got to do with politics...even when the army research units recommends against that particular weapons. Those days there was this Colts & Hk co. bidding for the battle rifle, ended up the US sabotaj the whole deals by selling the US 5.56 version which dirt cheap...ended couldn't feed properly with the German machines...and the final tender was awarded to the US.What a bummer....There r always someone who win these tender purchase ve something to do with political figures...Sigh...:bash:

Most of them were. Some were licence manufactured in Malaysia.

What about the Adnav IFV we saw in the first batch.
They seem to be Belgian/Dutch YPRs, did they buy them from us or what?

yes, something equivalent to British Territorial Army. The members are made up of civillians, college students, professionals, government servants etc...the video was made by college students.

Rejimen Askar Wataniah literally means Wataniah Soldiers Regiment.

PS: Why did they SAY King instead of Sultan?

in malaysia we have several small kingdom, and each kingdom have thier own ruler, this ruler we call SULTAN or RAJA ( kingdom of PERAK only ), when we combined all kingdom then we have a faderation of MALAYSIA, and to represent the federation we select one of the royal ruler as the supreme ruler, and this one we call KING to represent MALAYSIA.... the selection stand for 5 years each term and rotate.... quite short explanation from me...

Actually it's the ruler of the state of Perlis use the title "Raja"...and the ruler of Negeri Sembilan is not using title Sultan also unlike the other 7 states/kingdom..malaysia's eletive monarchy is really unique.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysian_King

Yang diPertuan Agung litrally means "The Supreme Ruler". People refer his highness simply as King or Agung. He still retain his sultan title in his official title as the King of Malaysia, the King among the Sultans.

Can I post some photos of the police here heh...They've played a major role in fighting Communists in the past.

from wikipedia about senoi praaq. I always thought the senoi praaq battalion should have been merge with the army instead of the police.

Before the Senoi Praaq was deployed into an area, conventional units would withdraw, allowing the Senoi Praaq complete unrestricted freedom of movement in the operational area (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Operational_area&action=edit). The jungle skills, stealth, endurance, and fighting skills of the Senoi Praaq made them feared adversaries of the communist terrorists in Malaya. The unit notched up a respectable body count and legends born of the time when the Senoi Praaq would count up 10 kills in a single incident. The Senoi Praaq Squadrons achieved a kill ratio (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kill_ratio&action=edit) of 16:1 (Jumper, pg 61) for killed, wounded or surrendered.
In some instances, the Senoi Praaq troopers were given the choice of weapons. They apparently enjoyed scoring kills using their traditional weapons, the blowpipe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowpipe) was a favourite. They particularly enjoyed a leisurely hunt that would take a few days, stalking their prey in a leisurely hunt. (Jumper, pg 62)
The Senoi Praaq quickly established a ruthless reputation among the Communist Terrorists, and took great pains to avoid the Senoi Praaq. (Jumper, pg 63). Though they had access to air support and artillery support, these were rarely used. Instead The Senoi Praaq prefers their more intimate kills.

1The Army has carried out trials on the Colt M4A1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_Carbine), Sig 552 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sig_552) and HK G36C (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_%26_Koch_G36) as possible replacements for its current standard assault rifle. A condition is that the future replacement be locally produced.
It is believed that when the US Government cancelled the HK XM8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM8_rifle) program, the Malaysian Army carried out trials on the Heckler & Koch-manufactured weapons as a possible candidate for its standard assault rifle.

any infos about why the are going to replace the AUG with the M4A1??
... a bad deal i think...

ggk
04-29-2007, 02:24 PM
switching to the M4 has something to do with a lost of production rights to the Steyr A3. BTW, is this confirmed? I have heard rumours of this but cannot get the information verified. Back in 2004 during the last DSA there was a big deal being made about Malaysia securing the production as well as global marketing rights to the A3. I believe there was then a political uproar in Austria about circumventing some European arms export control protocol. Anyone care to shed some on light on this?

i take this from other forums. It probably will give some light to what happen. Until now its a mistery.

I read on from others forum about Aug... It was said the Austria will be having if i m not wrong 3-4 major production... which is in Austria itself, Aussie, your neighbour Indonesia... An indo buddy got the script about A3 licence in Indo... Join production... also heard Malaysia will replace theirs Aug to M4... and the last bout combined M4/M16A4... What kindda crock was that??? Following the yankees in Iraq instead of be yourselves???

If it was.. dun forget to take also the M21... old maybe.. but I read on the indon military magazine... M21 is being distributed to the units in Iraq... as considered the rifle is very2 useful yet effective to be designed marksman rifle... to take off the souls of iraqi snipers... Interested???:| p-)

lol they havent finalise their decision yet. Now that the Hackler and Koch enter the fray, things kinda hecktic right now. But there were confirmation from the police force to use the M4, but not the army...not yet.

im in the process finding the pic of H&K showing of their product to MAF. Just wait.

M21 is a good rifle, but the army already have their own sniper rifle. I dont think they will change it in the near future.

STEYR Big news from Steyr is that it looks like we may see the AUG gracing the racks at our favorite gun store once again. The new AUG will be built here in the U.S. at their new facility, but they are currently being produced at their new facility in Vienna Austria, and licensed in Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand, after having been forced out of the old factory. Look for them around the end of the year once they get BATFE approval. Steyr also has couple of new rifles. One was a proof of concept. It is an SBS in .450 Marlin caliber. The other actually began production about two weeks ago and is an SBS in the NEW .338 Federal. The .338 Federal is a .308 necked up to .338. It gives near magnum performance in a small package and at reduced recoil.

yeah scanner is a gift from god...

a little correction, the red beret are from Unit Tindak Khas or UTK, not Senoi Praaq
Senoi Praaq wore similar red beret but with yellow backing on the police crest (1st pic only, notice they are carrying M16 not MP5 like the UTK in the last 2 pics)
also note from the pics the UTK is pretty much multi racial unlike all aborigines composition of the Senoi Praaq

Senoi Praaq from 3 Battalion PGA, one of two Senoi Praaq battalions under the paramilitary arm (General Operations Forces) of the Royal Malaysian Police
yellow backing on the maroon beret can clearly be seen in this pic
establish in May 1956, the Senoi Praaq are probably one of the first SAS-trained special mission units in the world, and the unit was honoured with the maroon beret of the SAS (1950-1957, before the regiment changed to beige) because of their success in combating the communist terrorists during the First Emergency (1948-1960)
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/5646/haripoliske200255bqz7.th.jpg (http://img201.imageshack.us/my.php?image=haripoliske200255bqz7.jpg)
69 Commando, originally another battalion under the paramilitary arm of the Royal Malaysian Police, but now it is under the Internal and Public Security Director
formed in 1969, this unit also received training from the SAS, and was instrumental in the fight againts communist terrorists during the Second Emergency (1968-1989). They were honoured with the same beige beret of the SAS
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/4273/haripoliske200006bat8.th.jpg (http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=haripoliske200006bat8.jpg)
Unit Tindak Khas or UTK, is also under Internal and Public Security Director

formed in the mid 1970s, by the new IGP at the time, after the previous Inspector General of Police was assasinated by the communist terrorists, and also in response to the hostage incident by the Japanese Red Army in August 1975
the core personnel mostly comes from 69 Commando, but now the selection is open to all branches of the RMP, (though many still comes from the paramilitary branch, because of their already tough training)
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1655/haripoliske200165eh5.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=haripoliske200165eh5.jpg)
one of their current job scope

69 Commando and UTK both have their own specializations, with 69 Commando more towards jungle warfare and UTK more towards urban ops and close protection, but both have military freefall, CQB, close circuit oxygen diving etc as part of their training
