Ok, I hate to post this, many liberals will not sleep will at night. Bush is not a slouch, according to:
http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20040210-082912-8099r.htm
" The Boston Globe — the respected, liberal newspaper owned by the New York Times — ran an article last week that Bush critics may wish to read carefully. It is a report on a new book that argues that President Bush has developed and is ably implementing only the third American grand strategy in our history. "
Will the lost in the clouds liberal realize they were wrong about Bush?

Tony Blankely. Haven't heard anything from him in a while. With good reason.
Will the lost in the clouds liberal realize they were wrong about Bush?
About the same time that liberal democracy sprouts throughout the ME and Arab countries actively ally themselves with Israel.

But his former ex-Dem-now-a-Dem-again adviser says he's a failure! This can't be!
I always thought the grand strategy was obvious, from all the speeches he's done.

One of the defects of liberals is their tendency to assume that people who aren't good with words in public aren't very smart. Typical liberal bigotry.

As a book that assesses GWB's performance in comparision to other presidents, one might consider reading "Second Chance: Three Presidents and the Crisis of American Superpower" by Zbnigiew Brzezinski.
This certainly better than an article more than three years old.

It's that he has a habit of completely making up words or saying things that don't make any sense.
It's painful to watch him bumble over his words. Does that hold some sort of appeal to people in this country? Does struggling to speak make him a more accessible president than one who is a better public speaker?
I don't care what side of the political spectrum the president comes from, having him talk like that is just embarrassing.

And he's a charter member of the realist camp that lost its way after the collapse of the Soviet Empire.

We had a prime minister who was even worse all through the 90s. Talked like a down river hick in BOTH official languages. Nobody called him dumb though, since he was a Liberal.

Would you hire a P.R. person who can't speak correctly? Would you hire a writer who makes blatant grammatical errors?
Part of a presidents job is making speeches and talking to people. I don't care what side of the political spectrum they are on.

Call me crazy but to me fluency in ones native tongue is an indicator of intelligence. Anyone that can claim degrees from Yale and Harvard should be able to speak. So he either got in only because of his father and family connections or his homespun ignorance is as calculated as his Texan accent seeing as how he's more native to Connecticut and Kennebunkport, Maine.
He does make speeches and he does talk to people.

I agree. You can be intelligent and yet are not able to speak for sh*t, but it certainly doesn't help anyone when a major part of your job is talking to people and giving speeches.

CJ speech is not always a indication of Intelligence. Speech is also a art form. One of the tragedies of life is when a person is considered to be low functioning because of a speech impediment.
I guess if one using speech as a sign of intelligence then the entire elected population of Arkansas are retards. The has been specials on the Arkansas dialect of the American Language.
There also have been Highly intelligent people who could not speak in a public forum.
Picking on his speech is more ad hominem. When I was kid, I spoke Polish, English and Tagalog........ The Californian school system had me go to speech therapy, Because I did not speak like a local.
"Classifying speech into normal and disordered is more problematic than it first seems. By a strict classification, only 5% to 10% of the population has a completely normal manner of speaking (with respect to all parameters) and healthy voice, all others suffer from one disorder or another. Dysphonia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysphonia), which is incomplete functionality of the vocal folds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocal_folds), is one of the most common and can be observed as, for example, an unusual roughness of the voice. Stuttering is also quite common: about 7% of the population suffers from it at some point in life."

Edited to add, read about Claudius.
I guess if you think Bush is the great demon, what the heck, I guess any smear will do.

I will refrain from saying that he is unintelligent.
You do have to admit though that speaking (whether it be to us citizens, foreign dignitaries, etc) is a big part of his job.
If you cannot speak, or write, correctly then most of the time it is difficult to convey your point to others properly. This not only leads to confusion, but in the case of a world leader, disagreements- or even missed opportunities for diplomacy.
When he speaks to other nations he is representing us (that is the job he was elected to do to some extent) to others. It does not look favorably upon us as a nation when he makes these bumbling mistakes.
I manage to understand him alright.p-)
At any rate, I hear what you're saying, and I agree mostly, But I don't really see his word-butchery as being a that huge an obstruction.

Well, we certainly won't have unity as long as people continue to says "the libs are sh*thead because...." and "the neocons are sh*theads because...."
But even in the above quoted post you have done a wonderful job of continuing the negativity.

What I find embarassing is people like you, and there are many, that can't even keep the personal attacks out of it during a time like this, when we have to stand together against the threat of Islamo Facism and terror attacks against our homeland. GWB is an american, and if you don't think he honostly has the best interests of this nation, and the people in it, in mind and heart, then why can't that be debated like an adult? It's always Bush is .....IDIOT, or Fool, or Retard, or whatever. You don't realize that Bush is the face of america, internationally, and when you dog him, you're really dogging yourself, as an american, at least in the eyes of the world. It's sad that you're not proud to be American, and that you think we're the problem.

Jason, your response to El, was well said. It is not that I am a Bush Supporter, I can not stand those like EL who are always spouting some compulsive anti-Bush BS at the cost of embolding the tangos.
What purpose does it serve? Bush is not the center of evil of the universe. I really don't want to give the Tangos any more ammunition then they already have. I am not interested in creating a culture of defeat here at home so some MY "politico" can become president.
Sadly the many Liberals have come to this:

And there's your problem. To me, his verbal mis-steps are just the coating of frost on an iceberg. To make your statement, you have to completely ignore the decisions Bush has made over the course of his term as President. To see his actions as 'dedication' is absolute folly. Bush is what he's always been, an immature* playboy whose family connections have insolated him from his repeated failures in his personal and professional life. He is a fool and the country is in the mess its in because too few want to deal with the fact that the man-child playing at being President is manifestly unqualified to hold the post. This is compounded by the group of people 'serving' him who hold un-American ideas and will go to any length they think they can get away with to impose them on the US public.
*Honestly, how many Presidents could you see strutting about in a flight suit declaring a premature end to the war? Think even St. Reagan would even think about pulling a stunt like that?
