Smart thinking (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070407/AUTO01/704070338/1148) by Ford CEO prevented Bush from accidentally BBQing* himself.
Mulally told journalists at the New York auto show that he intervened to prevent President Bush from plugging an electrical cord into the hydrogen tank of Ford's hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid at the White House last week. Ford wanted to give the Commander-in-Chief an actual demonstration of the innovative vehicle, so the automaker arranged for an electrical outlet to be installed on the South Lawn and ran a charging cord to the hybrid. However, as Mulally followed Bush out to the car, he noticed someone had left the cord lying at the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel tank.
"I just thought, 'Oh my goodness!' So, I started walking faster, and the President walked faster and he got to the cord before I did. I violated all the protocols. I touched the President. I grabbed his arm and I moved him up to the front," Mulally said. "I wanted the president to make sure he plugged into the electricity, not into the hydrogen This is all off the record, right?"
*The BBQ reference is thrown in in honor of shocker1's BBQ thread. Now I'm curious as to how hydrogen BBQ would taste compared to regular gas. :-D

Well a CEO that loses millions and gets paid milions for it is makin shyat up. I bet he knows nothing about the vehicles Ford is working on. Other than that memo and what that nerd said during a dog and pony tour through engineering. Trust me I know how it works. However fireworks and BBQ all in one with Hydro-que.:)

PRODUCT OVERVIEW Item Number 551005 Unit Price $595.00
The Hydro-que Hydrogen Gas Barbecue Grill is the perfect grill for the hydrogen energy enthusiast. The Hydro-que operates just like a normal gas grill except that instead of propane, it uses hydrogen. With hydrogen, not only are the emissions from the grill significantly lower than that of a propane model, but the food tastes great! Be the first person on your block to demonstrate the fuel of the future for our homes, transportation and even our barbecue grills.http://www.fuelcellstore.com/cgi-bin/fuelweb/view=Item/cat=/product=98
I hope whoever uses one of these puts some skunk oil in the gas.
I can see why Ford has had some problems selling their vehicles when they are not forward thinking about labeling their products correctly. The company needs to start laying some other people off(That CEO of course with no pay) if not for safety reasons, but to keep people from accidentally blowing themselves and getting sued all the way to bankruptcy court.

I am going to ignore the whole silliness of the article that started the thread and focus on what SHocker (and Shocker, I know your post is a joke) posted, which far more interesting.

This thing is crap.
First of all, for 600.00 plus you can get a PHAT grill, or smaller grill and a whole lot of propane.
Second, propane IS a cleaning burning fuel source that requires less energy to produce than hydrogen.
The difference in emissions between (yes, Hydrogen is when you BURN it cleaner, but not not by much since propane is pretty damn clean) the two is simply not enough to warrant a move to such an expensive gas.
Absolute silliness....

I'd agree - the Ford guy in that picture doesn't exactly look like he's fearing for his life. And how exactly would there be any danger? Bush is holding the end of the cord that plugs into an electric source, not the end that would have juice on it. Much ado about nothing.

No you're lookin' at it the wrong way - it's not about whether or not it makes economic sense, or even works better - it makes us feel better. They need to put onna them little green leaf stickers on that thing with the word Hybrid under it, and they won't be able to keep up with demand. Every douchebag in suburbia will be calling their friends over to BBQ, and be all "yeah, oh my new grill? Yeah, it's a hybrid. I like to be part of the solution, not the problem. Thaannkks" ;)

rofl rofl rofl ......................man, down here in TX, you'd probably get shot at for having one of those things.
Trying to reinvent the wheel.
Propane is just fine, alot of the people I know use propane on the weekdays to grill a quick meal, the fire pits are used for weekends with tons of meat and beer.

Whats a joke? My assesment of the suits in respect to the engineering staff at an Automotive Company? Or the Hydro Grill? Well the first part is serious, the grill though obviously real is pretty much a joke. I could make one for 25 bucks but even then why should someone ignore propane or Kingsford is beyond me. I would like to know if any chumps bought one for 600 bigins.

The irony is that Hydrogen is extracted from Natural Gas through existing sources of energy such as coal.
Hydrogen power in cars does improve air quality since the emissions is H2O. The problem is there's currently not enough Hydrogen produced from alternative clean air sources of energy such as solar, or wind.
No immediate free lunch. yet....
But the Japanese have it right. Hybrid engines can be applied to any sources of fuel. Gas, Diesel, CNG, LNG, Hydrogen, or Ethanol.
Hybrids are good on city streets because power is generated through breaking. As in the case with retrofitted hybird engines on buses in Sacramento, they were worthless on long distance commute routes where little breaking is applied.

rofl no doubt man, no doubt.
Sort of like all those folks that bought a Lexus GS hybrid thinking its amazing 28 miles to the gallon...what amazes me even more is that we give a tax break on that, because hey its HYBRID™ but ignore a VW TDI because even though it uses a clean diesel fuel and gets 45 MPG, its not HYBRID™!
Or how we have labeled a concoction of diesel fuel sprayed onto coal as an ENGINEERED ALTERNATIVE FUEL SOURCE™ for power plants.
The world is absurd...

So, let me get this straight. He's telling us his car is so poorly designed there is a real chance you could detonate the thing and your self if you ...well, I don't understand it anyway...a fuel plug and an electrical plug designed the same?...What a bunch of total crapola. Hype..hype...hype...attention getting hype.
I can't imagine what my father-in-law would do with it...he put water into his oil fill twice in his 1985 Caddy thinking he was topping off the radiator, fer crying out loud.
