Bandanas are good and all but everyone in the unit? Being a martial artist on the battlefield dosnt help much. All the crap about operators being experts in hand to hand belongs in the movies. Besides, firearms do a better job.

That was the nazis that used anti-tank dogs. The Soviets might have as well, but i know for sure that the nazis would train dogs to sabotage supply columns.

I'll point you towards the "SF soldier awarded Silver Star" thread in the discussion forum.

As far as i've ever heard it was the Russians that used anti-tank dogs. They trained them to run under tanks and strapped explosives to them. On the battlefield they sent them in the direction of the German tanks and hopefully they would explode under the tank. As to the Germans using them i've never read anything about it but they may well have.

The Russians used Anti Tank-dogs. But it backfired in a ugly unexpected way.
Cause the dogs were trained on Russian tanks and when realesed they ran against the Germans.
But little Fido did not see them as the enemy, turned around and as the good trained doggie they were went for Russian tanks.

Those soldiers on 7th and 11th pics are not Spetsnaz, they are VDV (paratroopers.)
and thats not an anti-tank dog.....geez, don't you people know anything ?
that pic was taken either in Afghan or Chechnya (or somewhere on Kavkaz) anyway, there were no tanks in Afghan, and in Chechnya....well actually there were a few T54/5's and T72's, and a couple of T80BV's (after the first war, in '96), and they have all been "eaten" by "Grach" (SU25) in the begginning of the first and second wars, so there was no need for anti-tank dogs, and besides, they werent used since WW2......and dude, why the hell would we need an anti-tank dog, when every infantry squad has atleast 2 AT weapons (either an RPG-2 or RPG-8 Family)??

koster, lighten up a little. Nobody claimed that it was a Anti tank-dog. I understodd it as a joke. Everybody do understand that it is a mascot or just a pet. Sheeeez...

Jugding by the uniforms so are the guys in pictures 3 & 10 - unless anyone knows better. I know Spetznaz have a habit of 'blending in' with line units in their AOR (as do many SF units on occasion).

It was the Russians that used mine dogs during wwii. Seems funny now but it was successful enough at the time for the survivors to be included in parades... which is where the west first found out about them.
The main result of the tactic of using anti tank dogs was that the Germans issued orders that all Russian dogs were rabid and were to be shot on sight. this lead to a great reduction in the numbers of available dogs. As dogs were also being used for scouts, and defence, not to mention sniffing out mines and ****y traps the number of dogs available for anti tank work diminshed to the point where the idea was given up. They were trained with captured German tanks. The myth that they were used to Russian tanks and tended to hide under Russian tanks was just that... a myth. They were used because of the shortage of Russian tanks at the start of the war.

In Afghanistan and Chechnia Dogs were never used as mascots, but perimeter defence, and also for the important role of sniffing out mines, and defending small units in hostile territory.

Thanks man.
The pics of the guys in the blue uniform is off group Krechet, second most elite after Alfa. All of those guys have Maroon berets, seen on one of the pics, the most elite mark of military distinction in russia.
The guys in the black berets are OMON, and my guess is that the rest are GRU Spetsnaz.

those are Krechet operatives (2nd, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th pics), the three guys on the 8th pic are either GRU osnaz, or Razvedvzvod. Guy on the 9th pic is an OMON sniper, and the rest of them are SOBR operatives, not GRU.
nice pics by the way.

I dont know, it could be an OC-03 or OC-03AS (SVU, SVU-AS) , the only difference between them is that one is semi-auto only, and another is semi or full-auto...
