BTW , on one of the pictures , where soldiers perform the shooting drill , the soldier with MG don't hold it right  . If he had to fire MG while standing , his hand on Gas cilinder could became hot , and MG would slip his hands ... The correct way is to hold it on the Bipods ...

Is there a special reason for the guy on the right to be bare-footed?
It ain't a mosque or something. Or did he just had smelly feet and wanted to ventilate them?

No , they bought it (well , some by Israeli help money . The weapons are Israeli ) . I don't remember allready what they have . They have those APC , Haled something , they have - had helicopters (one of them , Arafat's was f*cked up ) , different patrol jeeps , Diffender jeeps .. I really don't remember allready .
Their naval police also had some small boats with some 50 calibers , and their 17 commando force stuff also had some cool toys ...

Anyway , when you will enlist (if that will happend ;) ) , if you want to know that stuff , sit inside the toilets for a long time , and then you will know it better then me . p-)

Who do some Israeli soldiers wear a bag-like covering over their helmets?

It takes away the shape of your head.
The rounded shape of the human head is not quite a normal "natural" form in the field. It is often the first thing to be spot when looking for people.
So by wearing this cover the shape of the head looks more "natural", it kinda blends into the scene.

Pooga,

Boy I cant decide which gets asked more often, the question you asked or the question on what’s the deal with the chains around the Merkava ;)

As for your question, ok big80a2 did a good job of explaining it for indeed its used to disrupt the outline and shape of what a round helmet gives off and it helps in better blending the soldier into the surroundings that he is in.

It also has a added benefit of shielding the soldier from the sun.

Here check out this page from Isayeret.com (http://www.isayeret.com/schools/guerilla/guerilla.htm)

Here is another pic of him

This is Alex, the school's sniping instructor. A new comer to Israel from Russia, Alex was for several years a member of the Russian elite unit - the Spetsnaz - before joining the IDF

Perhaps he is both, I mean hey why not, its not like in infantry we have to throw all you ruskies to Givati p-) , some of you have talent in specialized fields and well we should take advantage of it as the IDF does from any other “olim” that come from military units from other nations with special skills.

As for camo, well yeah you do have a point, though with the webbing suits, the “Mitsnefet”, and a growing sense of camo importance, I would say we defiantly improved as compared to how it was ten years ago (where there was almost nothing besides just the OD BDU’s) but yeah we still have ways to go and I agree we can still use improvment (especily in terms of proper application of camo face paint where we have ways to go on that ;) ).

OK my bad
That fact is that the VBL is THE recon tool in the frecnh army, for it`s self defense it has a ANF1 on top and sometimes a Milan.
My old genreation worked maiinly on P4/milan, and we got our VBL pretty late in my service.
All of that to say that the AMX10RC has been more often used in platoon of let`s say "armed recon", rather than individually, where it s used for fire support (the 105 has some woof).

It's BRDM-2 , i don't know how they call it there . It was given to PA as a gift by Russian Federation - 42 vehicles (12 platoons ) in 1996 , and they were in use by PA 17 commando force .
They were ****ed up by IDF raid on Anzar-2 compound in Gaza , at 2002 . If i am not mistaken , during "Homat Magen" operation .

http://www.geocities.com/jomavehn/brdm2_description.html

They also had BTR-152 ... Had is the key word here .

8x8 demonstrator (french word is "démonstrateur") or prototype which was designed to give a family of vehicles (IFV, fire support, etc...) but the program has been cancelled and replaced by the VBCI...But you are quite right because the Vextra turret is a TML105, which is the little sister of the AMX-10RC turret, the TK105...

Javehn would explain it better than me, but if I remember well, it's for detonate ATGM's or RPG's or any rounds before they hits the base of the turret

They protect the rearturent area against RPG's.

And when the tank crew have free time. They lay a tennis ball on the hull and turn the turrent as fast as it can and the ball fly's towards you, so the tank has some sporty futures to. :P ;)

what is with the chains with the balls at the end hanging all over off the back of hte Merkava? Is this to stop RPG's, etc? I ask cause it dosen't look like it would do a good job being that it is just chain, not like the slat armor or anything....can someone who knows inform me of that.thanks

Regards
Daniel
