WASHINGTON (AFP) - Canada's Prime Minister Paul Martin paid White House foreign policy chief Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) his country's ultimate compliment -- praising his knowledge of ice hockey.
Martin said he had talked with President George W. Bush (news - web sites), former managing partner and part owner of the Texas Rangers Major League team, about the US leader's first sporting love during a visit to the White House.
"We talked a bit of baseball," Martin told Canadian reporters.
"Condoleezza Rice and I talked football and hockey ... I can't believe how much he knows about hockey, its really quite impressive."
Rice, Bush's national security adviser, has joked about how he would like to take over as National Football League (NFL) commissioner once his political career winds down.
