Just watched a news report on Thames valley tonight and it showed British army shooting competition seen by the Princess Royal one of the British soldiers was wearing a helmet very similar to the American style helmet in dpm.

My question is the army testing new helmet?

Haven't seen the footage myself but could be a New Zealand soldiers helmet in question here. They have something similar to the US PASGT and use a camouflage very similar to British DPM

I've read that they're issuing a new helmet in Iraq, called the Mk. 6a. It looks like the regular helmet but offers greater protection.

Heres a gen dit. In ganners, this mk6 helmet saved a lads life from an RPG round, which hit above him and explosion went into his helmet, shrapnel danage to helmet he was fine.

That looks like the stand Mk6 to me...with a stitched on elastic strap for use with a respirator.

Still, aren't they looking into getting a new helmet, itwas on here a while back about it, I believe someone said it was manufactured by Rabintex....

It's been on issue for a while now. Black instead of green.

the only new british helmet is the GS MK6A Combat Helmet

Chill out - its exactly the same shape as the Mk6, just different materails. The original mk6 was ballistic nylon re-inforced plastic - cheaper than kevlar, not as strong, but very hard wearing. The new mk6a has a new fibre ( dont know if its kevlar or something similar ) which gives better protection. To make sure people knew which one they got, they changed the colour of the plastic from green to black.

@Oldsoak: Sounds like they're doing the same thing to the Mk6 that they did to the Para helmets...
