Modified AK version, for... either shooting over the top of a trench/wall
or shooting around corners.

Yeah the people on the site it is posted on say something similar, they reckon it may be also used to fire from within an apc. Strange one really just thought I would see what you good people thought about it. ;)

Hrmm, yeah it could be designed to fire from the firing ports of some BTR or BMP, but don't quote me.

This curved-barrel AK-47 variant is for close in defence of MBT:s, it was tested, but not adopted.

Yes , this is one of the earlier concept for "corner shot" , or prototype of RWS . Russians worked after WW2 on a concept ,with a curved barrel . There are several attempts made to do it , like PPSH with curved barrel for tankers .

Anyways this is is RPK model with a curved barrel . It was made for tankers , to engage targets on close proximity without getting exposed . It was supposed to be mounted on the hatch . Tankers didn't liked it , because it made the entrance and exit to the tank very hard , so the idea was forgotten .

If i m not mistaken , German had it's first curved gun , in 1944 , special curving mount upon MP43 .

Yep, the Krumlauf attachment. It didn't curve nearly as much though.

Krummlauf was first made to Kar 98, it was just transferred to MP43 / MP44 / Stg 44... ;)

And seem to recall earlier attemps from ww1 to make weapons like these...

Experimental Curved barrel Machine Gun developed from the RPK light machine gun (1960)

N.F. Makarov designed a curved barrel assembly and K.T. Kurenkov developed a ball-shaped mount.Consequently, they performed all the work required to create a curved barrel machinegun with a 90 deg. barrel curvature. The machine gun was intended to arm tanks, more precisely to protect them in the "dead zone" that cannot be engaged by conventional straight-line machinegun fire. To resolve the problems of disabled or trapped tanks it was decided to mount such machineguns on the turret hatch. The tankmen were not very enthusiastic about it, to say the least. Consequently, the idea to protect tanks by curved barrel machineguns was abandoned and all activity to this effect came to an end.
