Looks like an M49A2 60mm round.

Yep it's a M49 HE 60mm mortar bomb, or a copy thereof.

Mortar bomb? Unless you're EOD, I'm going to say no.
Looks to have a timed fuze, something like a mechanical fuze.
Is it defuzed? If not, it could go off...

Actually, yes I am EOD qualified, been doing it for around 15 years now...
Mortar projectiles are called mortar bombs, or sometimes simply mortars, but if you say bomb you avoid any confusion when talking about the weapon itself.
Of course it is not defuzed, the fuze is still on the nose of the bomb, would have thought that was clear. If you meant is it rendered safe, then I dont know and nobody can really know from that photo. Could be someone has hand dismantled the fuze and then re-assembled it so it looks good as an inert training aid.
Why would you say it has a time fuze? What indication do you have of that? There are no time graduations, the only place that could be a break in the fuze body where you turn it to set the time is far higher than I have ever seen on a fuze before. Looks more like a nose piece for a point detonating fuze. In fact it looks almost exactly like a M52 or M525/6 point detonating fuze with the impact plunger depressed. Just so happens that those fuzes were used on M49 series mortar bombs.
But I am very interested on why think it is not a mortar bomb.

It's because I'm a EOD tech in training. I admit, I don't know much more than what I was told at Redstone Arsenal.
In fact, I realize it's not defuzed now. The fuze isn't removed at all. That would be my bad. I thought it was a time fuze because it look to have two different metals between the fuze and the round itself (let me clarify -- where round meets fuze = two different metals). Then again, I thought it was a point detonating fuze because of the crush cap at first.
The name "mortar bomb" throws me off. I understand it's an HE round, but "bomb"? I still have a whole lot of training to go through at Eglin, if I even make it there.
I am glad you showed your knowledge, though. I appreciate it very much. I'm out on medical leave and have forgotten much of my training because of brain surgery. Seriously, I really do appreicate it!

SgtBojangles,
You have to understand that not everyone uses US terminology and it would behove you to learn the differences. For example, hangfire can mean very different things depending on whether a Brit or American says it; enough of a difference to seriously hurt you.
Good luck in Eglin, enjoy the beach.
