This a request for assistance going out to the Britiish members here.
I have searched through the vendor list and checked out a few of the Brit Surplus suppliers, and I have purchased from Flecktarn in the past(they don't have the size I need at the moment).
I'm looking for an XL Desert DPM SAS Windproof Smock, new if possible or used like new, but genuine is what I'm really looking for, and it's hard(for me anyway) to know what's real and what's not.
So could someone give me a few contacts/sources, so I could pick one up for a reasonable price????

I just got one on ebay a DPM genuine MOD issue one for 42 bucks. Ebay is a good place to start. Or try John Bull military clothing.

Or there's this one from DZ supplies. Not sure if that's the 95 patt smock with a separate hood or not. Looks like it's attached. Give them a ring/email to find out. They do 190/104. £29.95

Thanks for the help guys, as I mentioned I checked out a few of the sources on the vendor list but I would like to get something genuine.
I call a few of the places before I go to work, and as a last result I'll go the way of Ebay ;)

I have another question, what does Soldier 95 mean???
Is it as simple as 1995?
Sabre

Should be 'CS95', standing for 'Combat Soldier 1995'. It refers to all the kit that came out in 1995 under that package. Off the top of my head that's:
The 'new' layering system:
-OG t shirt
-OG thermals
-Norgie
-DPM lightweight jacket (shirt)
-Green fleece
-DPM field jacket (smock)
-DPM Goretex suit
-Leather gloves (Originally green, then black)
-Boots, combat high
That's when all of the changes such as taped (canadian) buttons, ripstop material, chest rank slides etc came out.
Also, that's when the DPM version of PLCE was fielded.
People just tend to refer to the working/field uniform as 'soldier 95', or 'combat 95' or just simply as '95s'.

Sorry to be a bit off topic, but how are the S95 gloves? Are they good for cold weather? I was thinking about buying some gloves but I don't know whether to buy the GS combat glove, S95 glove or the N.I. glove. Which of these would be best for colder weather?
Sabre

I don't know what the GS combat glove is, but neither the NI nor the 95 glove is particularly warm. Between the two I'd say the 95 was the warmest, as it's got a goretex layer, but it's still not a winter glove. Your best bet is a civvy skiing or snowboarding glove that's properly insulated. I just keep my 95 gloves in my bergan for any rough handling that need doing, they're not that great as a combat glove as the fingers are quite bulky and stubby.
There is a new desert glove, but I've not seen one yet so I couldn't give you the scoobie on it.

s95 has a goretex liner
NI a bit more padding on the back of the hand, but no liner.
cold weather go for a buffalo mitt
sorry sabre beat me to it

Agreed, in extreme cold weather a mitt is best. Royal likes messing about on cold mountains, I think he recommended a mitt. Have a search for cold weather gloves/mitts.

I don't know what the GS combat glove is.
The GS gloves kind of look like the NI glove but don't have the padding over the knuckles. I don't really need gloves for extreme cold weather, maybe -5-10°C, so I think the s95 gloves would be OK.

Fair one, but seriously, what's it for? If it's for shooting, dont go with a 95. They're rubbish, no fine control at all. Go for a purpose-desigend shooting/combat glove instead. If it's a general work glove, then the 95 is ok, just dont pay too much for it.

It's just for general purpose stuff. I can get them for about 20 pounds.

Just sold 2 (although mine were large (180:112)) on ebay. Sorry :(
Top tip is to check for the NSN for an issued smock. Anything DPM (that's issued) will have an NSN, even a trials item (which will have a red, not green or sand DSTA label). Don't fall for the "it's so high speed it doesn't have one" BS.

That's DCS95 with a hood.

Sprogs  DPM PLCE was out way before 95, I had a set in 92 IIRC.

It's like a 95 glove without the lining - okay but doesn't last. If you're issued it and pusser will exchange it for you, great. If not don't bother.

I carry a pair of buffalo mitts as a back up on the hills (and back in the day, in my bergan). For real snow I've got a few pairs of goretex snowboarding gloves and mitts (of varying quality) and an old pair of Berghaus ice climbing mitts (which have lasted surprisingly well). I still use Dachsteins for real (Scottish) climbing though. In the field I mostly wore RAF flying gloves (great for dexterity and surprisingly hard wearing - and exchangable). I've also got a a pair of neoprene Barbour shooting gloves for those cold days on the ranges...

Oh..snap?
How old is PLCE then? Like was the olive S90 webbing out in the late 80's?

Geezah, have you tried Silvermans? They can be spendy, but usually seem to have lots of new Brit gear. (I'm to lazy to check, myself-wink)
I've got a desert DPM smock, given to me by a Brit soldier with whom I served in Kuwait. They're nice.

No problem, seeing as I'm 6'4" it would have been too small.
I'll make sure and get a NSN.
Now from what I've seen on Ebay there seems to be a few different NSNs, is this common, or is it a cross over from the S95 to the newer smocks?
You would think there would only be two NSNs......

I don't think so, I know I went through the vendors list, but I may have overlooked them. I saved a bunch of them to my favs file on my laptop, but Silverman's may be my best bet.
I have Desert DPM boonie I purchased from Flecktarn but they don't seem to have the Smock in my size which sucks.
Oh well, the search continues....
Sabre, many thanks again.
Hopefully(fingers crossed), as it will come over here, I might be able to get away without paying VAT p-)

There will be a different NSN for each style, size and colour - only the last 4 digits will be different. The description on the label will say something like Smock, Windproof...
If you get a DPM one that says SAS it's either a fake - or the earliest style from the 1970's (and like rocking horse poo).

The VAT is automatically deducted if you live outside the EU. After you select your country and overseas shipping you will see the total without the VAT..

I called Silverman's yesterday and spoke to a lady there, she was as helpful as she could be, and she told me the smocks do have a NSN.
MY last question hopefully is size.
I'm used to small, meduim, large and extra-large on sizes, and from what I have worked out I need a 190 but as I'm about a 43/44" chest, do I need the 112 or 120, and if I get the 112, how much room will there be?
Are these smocks supposed to be worn tight or loose, with plenty of room, or will I look like Mr Blobby if I get a 190/120???
I want to make sure I'm somewhat spot on before I drop $200...........
Royal

I'm a 42" chest and can comfortably wear body armour under a 112 chest smock. They're supposed to be baggy - but not too baggy (especially if you aren't wearing armour underneath).

Royal and all, I really appreciate the input, many thanks.
I have one last question, hopefully, I found one on Ebay and he has the following NSN against it, 8415-99-665-6290 DC2CESL/3122
Is there any info you can offer regarding this NSN?
Thanks
