The demise of a call-girl ring and pending trial of an alleged madam claiming thousands of clients has the US capital riveted by the chance powerful men may now be caught with their trousers down, with a senior state department official apparently first to fall.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 50, dubbed the DC Madam in local media, has been arraigned in federal court on charges of operating a Washington prostitution service for 13 years until her retirement in 2006.

Palfrey has denied she ran a prostitution ring. Her company, Pamela Martin and Associates, was simply a "high-end adult fantasy firm which offered legal ****** and erotic services across the spectrum of adult ****** behavior and did so without incident during its 13 year tenure," she said.

Palfrey contends her escort service provided university educated women to engage in legal game-playing of a ****** nature at 275 dollars an hour for a 90 minute session, the Washington Post reported.

But Palfrey has also hinted that she has a record of the phone numbers of thousands of more than 10,000 customers that could embarrass more the a few of the US capital's high-fliers.

Friday, the US State Department announced that Randall Tobias, the embattled head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), was resigning for unspecified personal reasons.

However ABC News, which said Palfrey has provided it with a record of the numbers of calls to her private cell phone, reported that Tobias stepped down after they spoke to him about his allegedly contacting her number.

Tobias since 2003 also was President George W. Bush's first global AIDS coordinator, a job which drew criticism for his emphasis on faithfulness to partners and abstinence over condom use in trying to prevent the spread of the AIDS virus.

Before entering government he was chairman, president and chief executive of the pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, and also, from 1997-2000, chairman of the board of trustees at Duke University.

His now-reported links to a firm accused of prostitution have raised more than a few eyebrows.
And the Post reported Saturday that local jitters appear to be multiplying. It said Sibley claimed that "he has been contacted in the past few days has been contacted by five lawyers asking whether their clients' phone numbers are on Palfrey's list of 10,000 to 15,000 customers from 2002 to 2006."

That may have something to do with the fact that Palfrey already has named her first name, as it were, on her website, where she has posted a court document from April 12 in which she alleges formal US naval commander Harlan Ullman was a "regular customer" whom she needs to subpoena.

With James Wade, Ullman developed the military doctrine of "shock and awe" used by US government in its invasion of Iraq. According to one definition, it is shorthand for rapid dominance based on the use of "overwhelming decisive force," "dominant maneuvers," and "spectacular displays of power" to subdue the other side.

Earlier this month Ullman told CNN that "The allegations do not dignify a response," and referred any other questions to his lawyer.

seems that politcal forces that oppose this administration are rattling the cage , see what falls?

Politics and prostituition are one and the same. The affections/actions of either practitioner are negotiable.

It's the same everywhere. In High Politics you will also find High Prostitution. Power is afrodisiac and in any capital you can find prostitution networks.

I also think it is a part of the narcissistic personality many politicians have or develop just by being in politics, what is needed to surivive under the onslaught of smear campaigns and addiction to power.

It is still one of the oldest professions and It will probably be one of the last profession to disappear once mankind develops some kind of utopian world.

If it's legal though, it's hardly newsworthy. Berlin doesn't have a hidden network, but a few "decent" brothels.

In any Capital City wou will find and army of powerful men, high authorities, members of parliament, ministers, senators, deputies, political assessors, a big powerful bureaucracy and they are middle aged or aged people, far away from their home places, far away from the wifes and families with lonely and boring nights in the Capital City and lots of money and power to spend, so of course that in any Capital City there's also an army of young prostitutes to match this demand, legally or illegally. So scandals are just a question of time in any political system and sometimes even gay scandals because some of the politicians are hidden or crypto-gays in their narcissistic way of life. We had a famous case when the Police broke a prostitution network because there was also some drugs related case and a corruption case. One of the policeman copied the agenda of clients from the criminal organization and opened himself a new brothel, this time apparently with no drugs.

It's funny, the US Gvt hired prostitutes for service men...we even had an officially sanctioned brothel at Bien Hoa...yet, the pols use them and it's curtains!!! I personally hope every damned one of them in Washington get nailed ..toss the b-tards out and start over. Of course, the female pols will be the ones in the leaderhhip positions then (supposing they were not using the prostitute themselves...which with Pelosi and Cliton...who's to know they didn't?)....well, considering the mamby-pamby way Washington has been working, what's the diff?

Rumor has it that some female names are on the list. Could be former playthings now in gov't positions.
Could be some lesbian preference hourly rentals.

What i tried to say is, that it wouldn't come to such a big scandal here. Because it is an open secret that politicians visit brothels. And since it isn't illegal here (morality is another thing) there won't be a crackdown that would compromise the people involved. Of course there's an illegal element in 'our' prostitution as well, but politicians would rather choose 'high class' prostitues. No persecution, no scandal. It's a pretty safe game here.

Another example: Amongst others the mayor of Berlin ( = president of the state of Berlin) is openly gay. So quite a few politicians took the way of confrontation early on. Think about it our old chancellor was divorced 3 or 4 times. It seems that wouldn't be possible in other countries.
