View Full Version : Automatic With Horizontal Magazine?

Hi all,

I am curious if you guys can help me out here!

I saw the movie "Hot Fuzz" yesterday and there was a machine gun displayed in it that I would like your help in identifying.

It looks old, maybe prior to 1980, and has a magazine that instead of going vertical (top to bottom, like an AK, M16, etc.), it goes horizontal. I think it sticks out of the left side. It is not much longer than a typical magazine, the only difference being that it is on the side.

I am thinking this may be a WWII-era German machine gun, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Edit: I should note that this was not fired on a bipod, but rather as one would shoot a normal rifle (unsupported).

The one in Hot Fuzz is an MP28/Lanchester SMG.

We have one of those made by some Norwegian resistance blokes.
The british only suplied them in parts.
To tell you the truth i think it is more dangerous to the shooter himself than the targetp-)

I beg to differ. The norwegian made Stens were just as solid and reliable as the ones made in the UK.

Not saying that all are crap.
Think this will vary a lot considering they are put together in basements and garages using the tools and materials they had by hand.
All I know is I sure as hell would't count om the one we have.

which is to say not very then.
they were cheap and they worked about all you could say for them
sterling very well made but only for CQB
though it did fold up into a nice compact package

Most of the Norwegian and Danish stens were of better quality than the issue ones. One of the Danish resistance groups eventually sent a signal saying that they only required bbls as they were unable to broach rifling, the rest of the parts they could make themselves.

Mablod, test fire the thing in a rest, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

That could be. It looks(and feels) ready to fall apart, but I must admit I have never fired it.

Or maybe we just have a "bad apple". p-)
