CSPAN 2 is showing a translated replay of the Royal - Sarkozy Debate right now, FYI. btw, can we get some opinion/analysis of the debate from the French members? Royal seems to be doing well.

I'm not French but imo Royal climaxed too early... it all evened out later on..
I doubt they won over many undecided voters tonight... being too technical and bickering about unrelevant issues instead of presenting positive visions for France.
Royal proved to be an hysterical bitch today...and was wayyy too agressive towards Sarkozy. He had everything to loose especially if he went ballistic like she did. This is why he stayed very clam and quite...to much in my opinion. Some people might interpret this like a weakness or lack of arguments, but that is definitely not reality.
A new poll by Ipsos was conducted right after the debate and Sarkozy went up to 53.5% from 52% 2 or 3 days ago... so not the debate wasn't that bad for him I guess.

If I were a Frenchman I would vote for Sarko. Royal is too left wing for my tastes.

Such debate is not the right place to learn what the candidates have to propose. We should know it already by now.
What I want to see in those debate is how vicious the candidates are to destabilize there opponent, check if they are strong enough to deal with b@stards on the international scene.
But the debate was too polite and too clean to evaluate the candidates on that but I found Royal pretty good: she knew Sarko is very structured in his arguments so she went in all the directions at the same time to drive him crazy. Was clever. But Sarko resisted well and there wasn't real winners. Wont change the balance.

I liked how calm and straight Sarkozy was despite the Royal aggression.
I'm pretty sure he'll win sunday.

Polls keep showing Sarkozy ahead, 52-48. Centrist leader Bayrou is supposed to appear on TV tonight to kinda endorse one of the candidates. Depending of whether he commands some influence over his voters (and I dare say he does, more than over his congressmen), it will either wreck Royal's chances or overturn the tables on Sarkozy.
She sure is courting Bayrou like there's no tomorrow. And to think last month her order to Socialist organizations was to fire volley after volley against the Centrist leader who was called "the other candidate from the Right" ! ;)
Polls keep showing Sarkozy ahead, 52-48.
No, Last poll (Ispsos 03/05) give 53.5/46.50... Sarkozy is clearly increasing his lead after the debate... French people did not fall for Royal's foolishness. http://www.election-politique.com/pres2007.php#sondages
Plus check that out:
Sarkozy was more convincing than Royal according to polls.

When I first started watching last night I was amazed by the polite way in which the candidates treated each other. I actually thought Royal was doing the better job of getting her points across. But when she started to lose her cool and worked herself into a frenzy I knew it wouldn't reflect well on her numbers. All this talk of "healthy anger" was distracting.

Let's hope it shows in the voting stations next Sunday !

X2 :) ...but i just realized who conducted the poll...LCI and Lefigaro the right wing TV and newspaper. I have nothing against them (as a matter of fact, I am using both of them daily) but i am just saying they are obviously biased...
Like you said, we shall see on sunday...
And I'll try to see on saturday in Orlando: I always taken a look at the garbage bin...Hopefully I'll see a lot of "segolene" papers.

Me I hope I shall see many a long face among my hierarchy next Monday. We're going to catch and pay hell for it if she loses, but goddammit that will be worth it !

The latest about this debate:
Sondage: le PS dénonce l'institut Opinionway
Jean-Louis Bianco et François Rebsamen, directeurs de campagne de Ségolène Royal, annoncent leur décision de saisir la Commission des sondages, "s'insurgeant" contre les pratiques de l'institut Opinion Way.
Basically Royal's party is suing the poll institute about the poll I talked about in my post above.... I guess the are really desperate.
