Sweden was a step ahead of the U.S. for much of the game

After defeating the United States 3-1 in a hard-fought battle in the Qualifying Round
Sunday in Ostrava, Sweden earned two points and set up a showdown on Monday with
Slovakia for a first-place in Group F. Sweden and Slovakia, who are certain to make
the quarter-finals, have seven points going into tomorrow's climactic game

The loss put the Americans, who have three points, in a must-win situation in their final
Qualifying Round game against Denmark on Tuesday. It also gave a glimmer of
hope for advancement to the Russians, who, with two points, could move on should they
earn a win against Finland tomorrow and should the Americans lose to the Danes...

Most of the players in the US team are from NHL. Although I can´t really say that
I recognize any names. But it´s the same thing in the Swedish team, Forsberg and
all those are still in NHL now. But it´s World Cup soon, US will get their asses kicked
there as well.

Sweden won over the USA yesterday in hockey. Hooray for us!
And what else is new? The US seldom plays well in any sort of world championship when it comes to hockey, and hasnt for quite a few years.

Man, in case you missed the news flash, more than 2/3 of the US is considered temperate in climate. That means it does not get cold in the winter. That means we don't play hockey. Nothing against it, b/c those gusy are great athletes, but most Americans don't play, never will, and don't give $.02 about this sport. Pick something we care about and then glaot if you like. Basketball? OK, gloat about the fact that we have declined if you want. But hockey? Please. Grow up.

I'm with you, but popularity does not equate with number of participants. Simple fact is that the vast majority of Americans never play hockey, even if they want to. Just not an option because no ice in winter and no ice rink. Incidentally, Konxville has a pretty strong youth hockey league for a Southern town. MAYBE 100 kids total in a town of $250K. Pretty low percentage and we have minor leagure hockey. Popularity does not equate with participation.
