CONFUSION AS US PULLS OUT
US troops are continuing their pullout from Fallujah but there appears to be some confusion as to who will take over.

On Friday it was reported that General Jasim Mohamed Saleh, a former general from Saddam Hussein's regime, would be taking control of forces in the city.

It now appears that subject to further background checks, General Mohamed Latif, will take control of the Fallujah Brigade.

There were signs of confusion among US officials over the identities of the generals.

The Fallujah Brigade has already taken control of the cordon on the southern half of the city.

US officials have acknowledged that the generals and their soldiers had not been vetted to see what their ties were with Saddam's regime.

But Lieutenant General James Conway said he believed that Latif had been exiled by Saddam's regime for several years.

Does the left hand know what the right one is doing right now?? What we've got here is a failure to communicate between the Pentagon and the commanders on the ground, it seems ...

I wouldn't be surprised if the general switches sides once the US start pressure him or the Fallujahans. Didn't he tell journalists he was proud to have served under Saddam?

Many of the General Staff were proud to serve under Hitler at one time too... That doesn't mean he still has loyalties to Saddam, he was just proud of his career.
