Swedish military officer suspected of leaking NATO documents to Serbian spy
Swedish military officer suspected of leaking NATO documents to Serbian spy The Associated PressPublished: May 14, 2007STOCKHOLM, Sweden: A Swedish military officer is suspected of leaking classified information about NATO's peacekeeping operations in Kosovo to an alleged Serbian spy she was dating, Sweden's Armed Forces said Monday. The woman, who was not identified, allegedly sent e-mails with details about the KFOR force to the Serbian man, who worked as an interpreter for the United Nations in Kosovo, the military said in a statement. The woman, who was serving in Sweden's KFOR contingent, started dating the man around the start of 2006, and began sending him the classified documents shortly after, the statement said. The alleged spy, identified only as "Z", was discovered last year and questioned by NATO officials, but has since disappeared, Sweden's military said. It was unclear what government or organization he is suspected to have worked for.The Swedish officer has not been charged with a crime, but will be investigated by the military's disciplinary board. The loss of information caused by Z's operations is the most extensive in KFOR's history," said Klas Eksell, a spokesman for Sweden's intelligence agency Must. "It is of course extremely serious that a Swedish officer is suspected to be involved in this."Sweden is not a NATO member but contributed troops to its peacekeeping efforts in Kosovo.Investigators have been able to recover e-mail traffic from the Swedish woman on the alleged spy's computer, along with thousands of classified NATO and U.N. documents, the military said.Sweden's military intelligence agency said the woman claimed she didn't realize the man was a spy, even though she referred to his "spy business" in one of the e-mails. The man then replied that "I am not a spy. I am a doer of good," according to the statement. The woman was investigated last summer, but the military said it could not find enough evidence to fire her. Monday's statement said new evidence had recently been found, causing the military to reopen the case. It was unclear what the new evidence washttp://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/05/14/europe/EU-GEN-Sweden-NATO-Spy.php

Uffda
Uffda
When you hit your funny bone, you say "Ouch" or swear because it somehow relieves the pain.
When someone else sneezes, you say "Gesundheit" or 'God bless you'.
What do you say when someone else hits their funny bone on knee or elbow?
"Uffda" (OOF-dah) is a Swedish onomatopoetic word, a sympathetic exclamation when somebody else is in pain.
According to Howard Reingold in "They Have a Word for It (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=legacymatterb-20%20%26link_code=xm2%26camp=2025%26creative=165953%26path=http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%253fASIN=1889330469%2526tag=legacymatterb-20%20%2526lcode=xm2%2526cID=2025%2526ccmID=165953%2526location=/o/ASIN/1889330469%25253FSubscriptionId=02ZH6J1W0649DTNS6002), it combines "Ouch for you" and "Oh, I'm sorry you hurt yourself."

Well she came from the south of Sweden and I have always considered those people as traitors anyway.. p-)
Joking aside... there's two or more problems here. One being the Swedish officer. But also the serbian man who worked for the United Nations. That's two sides who failed to check what their contracted people were up to, I mean either they failed or there is no solid control of who is working for and with KFOR.
Alarming imo...
Oh dude admittely I just really read that text. Her misdemeamour could have had direct effect on the safety of ongoing operations in the worst case, so in my opinion she deserves some years with sieved air to think about her behaviour. That story is hilarious though.

"Uffda" is a word that originates from Norway, not Sweden!

And "Skol" is actually spelled "Skål" but I guess that you don't have that letter on your keyboard..

Never heard uffda either, could it be some misinterpretation or corruption of "usch då" if it's not from Norway (which I belive it is), the meaning of them seems to be similar. Well maybe people close to the norweigan border use it.

The whole affair is embarassing for Sweden, i sincerly hope she will loose her job and be sentenced in court. She can´t be trusted working as an officer what if that had happend home in Sweden, that should have been treason.....
When i did my UN-service it was strictly forbidden to fraternitize (spelling?) with locals and other UN-employees unless it was servicerelated.
Uffda might be the Swedish word "ofta" which in English means "often" and also as someone said can be used as "d´oh" when using slang. Skol should as someone wrote be skål.....cheers.

And "Skál" is Icelandic for "Skål"! Big difference in ****ounciation.. But yeah, the scandinavian languages all originates from one language, namely 'fornnordiska'!
