The Student Union on the main quad

Passage way through the chemical and life sciences buildings. The building with the upper connector is the home of several nobel prize winners and our #1 nationally-ranked biology department.

View of the quad from the other side. Building in the distance is an auditorium. The trees surrounding the quad used to be Dutch Elms, but there was a massive disease spread in the 50s, uncontained by DDT spraying, which caused most of the trees to die. The many dutch elms were remarkable and gave the quad a cathedral-like appearance.

This is a look down the street where the world renowned biology and chemistry buildings are located. The number of extremely important compounds invented in these buildings is astounding. This is where the medical imaging tool known as the MRI (nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging) was invented.

A view of the Union from the front.

Grainger Engineering Library is in the back of the photo, and to the right is the engineering hall. Engineering is ranked #3 in the nation.

Some random engineering buildings.

Another view of the engineering library.

This is the creek that runs through the south engineering quad, nicely landscaped.

Some more engineering buildings.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20029.jpg

Engineering Hall on the left, the Campus Carillon in the middle (the tower), and the electrical and computer engineering building on the right, where the transistor was invented, the single-most important invention in the history of computers.

The brand spanking new Siebel Center, just finished on Friday (featured on Slashdot.org). It was possible with a $30+ million donation by the CEO and founder of Siebel Systems. I'll have several classes in here during my career in this school.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20031.jpg

Inside look of the Siebel Center. Notice the plush couches. They can be found throughout the building. It's supposed to be an environment that fosters creative thinking. The entire building is a computer experiment, actually. Every single possible thing is linked together, and your movement thoughout the building is tracked by RFID tags.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20032.jpg

Hmmmm. Plush couches.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20034.jpg

View looking outside. The building under construction is the new home of the NCSA (National Center for Super-Computing Applications). This is where Mosaic was invented, which is the first graphical web-browser. If you are using MS Internet Explorer, go to the help menu, About Internet Explorer, and read that box.

Another view inside.

Yet another view inside.

Outside View of Siebel Center, from the grounds.

Another outside view.

Another view outside.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20040.jpg

This is the Beckman Institute, the offices of many nobel prize winners and inventors of crucial computing applications and whatever.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20042.jpg

This is a view of the north engineering quad passageway, leading to the engineering library.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20044.jpg

This is the combined sciences laboratory building, where more offices are for distinguished and other faculty.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20046.jpg

This is where some really high-tech research is done in computers. They have some extremely expensive fabrication labs upstairs, which is guarded by security.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/beauty2%20012.jpg

Engineering Hall and the Material Science and Engineering building.

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/beauty2%20013.jpg

This is the Materials Science and Engineering building. The LASER was invented in that very building on the second floor.

I hope you enjoyed my tour. :)

http://netfiles.uiuc.edu/pzavisla/hostedmilitaryimages/campus/campus%20023.jpgNo offense, but does your engineering school have a running feud with the architecture school? That particular building is bloody hideous. [Nice photos on the whole, though.]

The engineering building backside ain't that great, but the front is pretty nice. The inside is fantastic, though. The lighting and aesthetic feel of the place is really nice and it's a joy to work there.

Oh, in case you didn't read that sign, it's the University of Illinois. p-)

(Oh, and the photos I took don't even show half the campus. There is a south quad and south farms and the athletic buildings which I never pass by anyways. And plus I don't like those weird liberal arts/business/other buildings. The engineering and sciences buildings are my favorites. :)

Bigger and prettier than mine, but hey, its not what it looks like its what goes on there that matters hey?!
Not that nothing important goes on at your place of course.

Would post pics of Aber but have no digital camera or scanner.
