Spanish Church to remove Moor-slayer saint

A statue in a Spanish cathedral showing St James slicing the heads off Moorish invaders is to be removed to avoid causing offence to Muslims.

Cathedral authorities in the pilgrim city of Santiago de Compostela, on Spain's north west coast, plan to move the statue to the museum.

Among the reasons for the move is to avoid upsetting the "sensitivities of other ethnic groups".

And answering in this thread to another thread written by the dirtiest mouth of this forum, I think we the spanish are afraid, in fact we´re terrified because Ariel Sharon and Yaser Arafat are going to get married together and having the ultimate hater-antispanish semitic baby of the world that one day will Re-Re-Conquer Al Andalus/Sepharad again. Just now, I´m wet because I pissed in my pyjama of terror.
Just because of that, spanish with the surname "Matamoros"(Moorkiller) are going to change it for the more political correct surname of "I´m a chicken" and in some cities of Castilla where they say in Easter "killing jews" in the place of "drinking liquor" now they´ll say: "forgive us Abraham". And just because Santiago(Saint Jacob) is a semite saint and it´s perverse to have a semitic saint killing his semites brothers, in Spain we´re gonna change him by other God of War more accurate to the actual situation, we´re thinking in "San Manolo" or "San Paco", perhaps "San Tio Pepe", there´re many candidates.

But I´ll keep myself shouting "SANTIAGO Y CIERRA ESPAÑA"(Santiago please shut the door, the weather is cold) when I charge agaisnt infidels.

You could convert to protestantism :) then your statues of saints could be conscidered works of art.

Bytw, I think Islam is against making pictures or impressions of humans as they're made by God as an impression of him, and we all know (atleast some of us know) that making pictures of God is a big no-no, so there are probably no stautes of moors killing christians or jews.

If I remember right - he had it cloaked because he used to conduct press conferences in the rotunda & the "tit" would appear right over his shoulder and was a bit distracting. It created an involuntary suclkling response in the males watching, and Ashcroft's message was being ignored as everybody's eyes were transfixed on the enourmous marble nipple.

I'm trying to find out the status on this - I wonder if it's still covered...

So, am I the only spanish here who did the military service? Really, we´re gonna being invaded by the barbarians again, what a decadence! Still I think the new elected government in Spain can´t rule inside of any cathdral, a polish who lives in Rome wouldn´t let them to do that.

Well, the point with Santiago´s cathedral is that it´s in the northwestern point of Iberian Peninsula, and when the muslims invaded Spain in 711 only a little northern fringe, all mountains, were free of them, so with the help of fortune the tomb of Saint James Apostle was discovered a century later, this was a historical feat of that time in all Europe, then began a route of pilgrimage from all europe to Santiago of Compostela, the route when crossed the Pyrinees was threatened by muslims expeditions which periodically attacked the north of Spain in the summer. The Pope said that going to Santiago was as good for your soul like going to Jerusalem or Rome.
The same Charlemagne peregrinated to Santiago, in fact the defeat of Roldan, who commanded his rearguard, happened when he came back to France, only that the defeat of Roldan, wasn´t against the muslims but, ehem, the basques. The road to Santiago became like an umbilical cord linking the still weak spanish kingdoms with the rest of Europe. All the route to Santiago, which began for northerns europeans in Paris, became a rich zone, with new towns, cities, hospital for pilgrims and castles for the warriors who defended the pilgrims against muslims, it was like the Crusades only that 2 centuries before, and many colonist stablished and reinforced the area. The spanish cavalry and infantry usually shouted just before charging "Santiago y cierra España", something meaning like "Saint James and Spain backing you" whenever they fought, although the rivals were moors or english or indians. When Hernán Cortés was retreating from Mexico after the Sad Night he had to figh with few survivors in Otumba battle against the whole aztec army, and a historian, Gómara, said that Santiago Matamoros again helped spanish soldiers, but one of this veterans who wrote his own history of the battle, Bernal Díaz, said he couldn´t see Santiago riding his white horse, only aztecs everywhre. The man buried in Santiago Catedral is posibly a christian heterodox beheaded during the roman empire, but it doesn´t matter, what it cares is that Santiago Route was vital for the survival of northern Spain, and I suppose the muslims of today know that fact.
Of course the tourists can visit the cathedral, you don´t need to be christian, like in the rest of christian temples in Spain. It´s only the mosques that can´t be visited by no-muslims, because we´re contaminated, you know.
The sculpture of Santiago now replaced I don´t think it was replaced because of Ben Laden, but because of PC reasons, because it was near the tomb of Santiago if I remember well, and just because of many non christian tourists visit that cathedral the archebishop want to show a more kind image of Santiago. But there´re many Santiagos Matamoros everywhere in the same city and in other places.
