There's lots of information about different forms of weapons optics on the net, but when it comes to normal optics, binoculars, monoculars and spottingscopes there is alot less info. I would like to start a thread about which optics are standard issue in military forces around the world, both present day and from the past, preferable wih pictures, and if you have experince what's your opinion about them.
If you have any civilian optics you have used in your civilian life or militarily and would like to recomend, please do as well.

US army uses Steiner Binoculars (http://www.steiner-binoculars.com/), specifically the 8x30 model (http://www.steiner-binoculars.com/binoculars/law/481.html)
Pictures are in the links above, including one being used by Special Forces (scroll down the page a bit)

British reserve units are still issued these bomb-proof binos:

Good bit of kit, graticules, fixed focus. Not bad for an old bit of equipment, bit like some of the mods around here....
