Hi,
I've been doing some searching and found both the AK47, and M16, M4 on Egyptian Army equipment lists, but these lists do not show quantity.

My Question is, which is the main assault rifle in Egyptian service, as in used most often in regular units?

(I know that they have recently been purchasing Western Vehicles, the M1A1 and AH64, and was wondering if this continues over to small arms as well)

Also, if they do use the AK series as their main rifle, which variant exactly do they use? Ak47, AKM, AK74 etc.

I think they make their own licensed version of the AKM.

Maadi AKMs, I think, with a spider printed somewhere on the receiver.

Yeah, Maadi Engineering Co. (originally in Maadi, Cairo, funnily enough) make a couple of AK variants, most notably a copy of the AKM called the MISR, I believe. I know they now manufacture Maadi receivers in the US - possibly complete weapons?

When I was in the Airport last year I've seen MP-5s and G36cs.....I think they were in the hand sof thier commando police though, so these weapons are more with the highly trained security forces. From what ive heard thier equivalent of the Rangers and SF use everything.
