I know that many people go trough the Ranger course every year but I want to know how you get in to the 75th Ranger Rgt. Do they select only the best of the class or do you have to enlist before you start the course!

Tell your recruiter that that's where you wanna be. He'll say "ok, you got it". Then, slap him for lieing to you again!

Not sure actually, ask the Ranger dudes on here, I promise one of them will know!

If anything Fearless-Falcon, I guess you would have to be a US citizen?

Actually, you can go even as high up as staff sergeant with just a green card...After that you'll have to apply for citizenship, but little birds tell, that if you have served with honor, that's just a formality...

1st Not all members of the 75th have attended Ranger School.
2nd You can enlist into the 75th but no guarantees you'll do what is needed to get there.

for specifics I suggest you carefully approach SOCNET or ask a recruiter - "IF it isn't written down then foey" - as shrek tackled.
from the goarmy - took 5 second sto dicover:

To become a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment you must begin with the nine weeks of Basic Training. Upon completion of Basic Training you will then attend Advanced Individual Training to obtain a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). This training varies in length depending on the selected MOS. Next you must complete Airborne training. Upon graduation of Airborne School you will be assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment to attend the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP).

If you pass each of the required training schools and RIP, you will receive an assignment to either the 75th Ranger Regiment Headquarters or one of the three Ranger Battalions.

For further questions or more up to date info from gentlemen currently seriving in the 75th (you best source is the horses mouth - no question) try SOCNET - however if you are serious I would approach with caution. Likely you simply need to perform a search on the site.

From what a buddy from the 75th tells me (at least for him) it was:
Basic
AIT
RIP
Time in the 75th RGT
Go to Ranger School

But thats not the only route. Just the one he ended up taking.

If you want to get in, ask for "OPTION 40 - Airborne Ranger" in your contract. It's all in wonderful Fort Benning!

Layout of training:
OSUT (One Station Unit Training) 14wks
-BASIC 9 wks
-Infantry 5 wks
Airborne School 3 wks
RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program) 3wks
-Training to make it through Ranger School whilst in the 75th RR
Ranger School 9wks if I remember correctly

Good luck. You can go through RAP (Ranger Assessment Program) if you are E5 (Sergeant) or above, and that would put you in the Regiment (if you pass).

Dude, most people don't make it through one tour of the Rangers. So I wouldn't pursue it unless I was absolutely certain thats what I wanted to do! It CAN ruin your life, you know?

So you don't have to go trough Ranger school to be a Elite Army Ranger :(

Trust me, if you make it to the 75th and earn your beret...you are elite. It's not easy and this may sound cheesy but it's true, many talk the talk but can't and never will walk the walk. Talk to someone who wears the tab or scroll, they'll let ya know.

The only way into the 75th is to transfer in from another unit (usually on a re-enlistment contract), or get it in your initial contract. Thats it, unless you happen to finish 1st or second in your class at ranger school. But if you think the 3 weeks at RIP is something to snuff at, THINK AGAIN guy. They will tear the crap out of you there. Better have the creed memorized before you arrive, verbatim. Otherwise welcome to a 3 week smoke session. At ranger school that actually treat you better (respect, anda little dignity), though they starve you almost to death lol.

Fearless,

JUST 3 WEEKS, haha they'll make it worth it, trust me. Time and numbers don't mean ****. It's how those times and numbers are spent....

I tried out for the exact thing you want, Airborne Ranger contract, but I was found medically unfit after Infantry School (old heart disease), and returned home for 2yrs "extended" leave. Be careful man. If you've got any medical problems, straighten them the f%%$##$ out first, hooah?
