Is Dr Strangelove a war movie?
Just because it takes place in the Cold War doesn't exactly make it a war film. I could say that any films that r set from 1950 to 1990 could be war films since they take place during the Cold war.

Is Dr Strangelove a war movie?
Seeing as SAC launches and delivers a nuclear strike on Russia. Yes.
There is also the assault on the airbase with the crazed base commander defending with a belt fed MG.
Most of the action takes place inside the War Room on an Airbase, or in a B-52 headed for a target in Russia.

Peter Sellers
George C. Scott
Slim Pickens
James Earl Jones (bit part)

I tried watching "Von Ryan's Express" recently and had to shut it off before I puked. Worst attempt at a war movie ever. Sinatra was such a ****head douchebag asshole **** **** ****tard. I would have shot him and taken my chances with the the war crimes tribunal then allow him to pollute the earth further. How does a middle aged guy become a "90 day wonder" Colonel in just a handful of years since the war started. And what's with the fakin half assed salutes? When he asked the Italian commandant if they don't salute senior officers in the Italian army I would have said "No, we drop kick them biatch!" BAM!

The best war film would have to be Breaker Morant. Brilliantly acted and directed, and about a war of which far too few films have been made.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080310/
Stalingrad wasn't the best war film I've ever seen, but as far as shock value goes, it has to be one of the most horrifying.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108211/
And who can forget Zulu. Gotta love those Martini-Henry MKIIs...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058777/
And last, but not least, Glory. Horner's score, and what may be Matthew Broderick's ONLY good performance, and lots of loud explosions all made this the best Civil War movie ever.

I have Stalingrad, but i have the stoopid version that is dubbed into English and has the worst acting ever.
I read an online review that said it sounds like 2 blokes do all the voices for the entire cast, and this is probably accurate. It's like this;
*Picture a German soldier mortally wounded in the rubble with his comrades*
Dubbed US voice over; Oh my, i seem to be dying, aaaaaggggh, tell my wife i love her.....
*all delivered in a deadpan flat emotionless voice*
The film would have been soooo much better if it was in German with subtitles, like Das Boot.

I have the Lorber Home Video version available here in the US with subtitles. It also has an optional dubbed track, but it sucks, so I never use it. (Plus it helps me get in touch with my Prussian roots by listening to it in German. ;) )
Why ain't I suprised that option465 dragged this thread back to the light...
but anyway, these are my favorites..
