...unstable???
Prime Minister Bertie Ahern's long-dominant party celebrated its sixth straight election win Saturday, but faced the possibility of an uncomfortable coalition that could mark a radical departure from a decade of pro-business government.

green party aint` the PDs. They may have to go with labour. Either way, its not a solid position and they`ll have to make some serious concessions to both parties if they want to form a government.
And with labour or the GP, say goodbye to proper investment in the DF.

If only FF and FG could get together, that would be an interesting, although maybe slightly unstable coalition, FG have some decent proposals for the DF's, hopefully Labour or the Greens(God help us), will keep their nose out of defence, other wise we won't be getting the B/G or the proposed AC airlift capbility, we will on the other hand be building homeless shelters and handing out sunflower seeds.
On Sinn Fein, it was blowback, they brought Gerry "which country is this?" Adams down to have a Bertie effect and it backfired, he had no idea about the economy, he didn't even know MRSA from MRSI:roll:, he was just out of his depth down here and people showed it by not putting little Mary Lou in, plus Micheal Mcdowell got him good during the debate, when Gerry was saying he only had an "average industrial wage" and he said how he can have an 600k+ holiday home, Gerry said it was owned by the Bank, and Mcdowell said "yeah, the Northern Bank", Gerry was in shockrofl

I`d say that debate cost the shinners dearly. Every question directed at Adams was answered by him saying "what we believe in is peoples rights". Regardless of the unbelievable irony of that statement, it was clear he had no idea about any of the issues.
Mcdowells northern bank thing was great too. Irish politics will certainly be less interesting with him gone.

- I 'll drink to that.
- ever since me and an Irish mate got harangued by a bloke wearing a SF badge in a pub near Jacobs Inn, I've always wondered how far they'd get. The lass behind the bar told him he'd one too many and told him to leave.

Why didn't you just beat the sh1t out of him in the bogs?

i would have to agree with you on this
SF i think made the Irish middle class nervous, with interest rates on the way up and the shaky situation at the moment this maybe was the right decision.
SF : they did not come across in any of the debates as a party with any forward thinking, they seemed to me to be just "winging it".

The shinners made everyone but the hardline border areas and inner city areas that always vote for them anyway nervous. The thought of the major parties relying on them to form a government led to most people trying to ensure that this didn`t happen.

- that was Jacobs Inn in Dublin. I just grit my teeth and let the locals sort it out - which they did. My Irish mate was quite apologetic, - and it wasnt anywhere near his fault.
- @ futurepilot, where do SF get their support from ? I've seen the odd bit of graffiti in Dublin that suggests its more from the deprived areas, but when you consider you've got FF, FG and Labour plus the Greens, one wonders what SF cover that the others dont.
 - you answered that,

Well kinda :)
Yeah its mainly Louth(just south of Armagh so no real surprise there), Kerry(god knows why but apparently Martin Ferris who`s best known for being arrested for IRA gun running does a lot for the locals), and inner city Dublin which still has problems with unemployment, drugs, education etc and as with all deprived areas people start looking for alternatives to parties who they believe have done nothing for them.
In these areas you`ll also get the typical "the English are b*stards who raped this country" line from people who have almost no understanding or at least a very warped view on Irish history but who still go out an support British football teams.
So basically, the majority of people who vote for sinn fein are uneducated bigots who also have no understading of economics and fail to realise that if sinn fein came to power our economy would collapse within a year because of their insanely stupid economic policies.
Just realised thats a bit of a rant but hey, I`m just happy they ain`t in power :)

me too mate....me too...
they also get support from people because they control the Concerned Parents Against Drugs movement(or somethin like that),even though one of their guys up in dublin was conected to gangster Martin 'Marlo' Hyland.
just heard that General Jackson of the BA during Troubles FINALLY admitted that innocent people were shot on Bloody Sunday....SF are gonna have a field day...
ALSO,anyone else agree that CIRA,RIRA,INLA and ONH(terrorist bastards) are gonna try and wreak havoc this summer now that the BA has left/is leaving??
