Nice Photo's shrek...

Question that might have been asked, how often do you all have re-paint your rifles? Seen some mighty artistic interpretations, any regulations on that stuff?

I also have some other questions that might be better suited for a PM if you are open to throwin out some answers?

Shrek were you guys re-equipped later on in the campaign? It looks like there is far newer equipment on those M4's then in previous posts like the EoTech the one guy has.

Looks like a Maxim, the Vickers body was smaller.

YAY orginal MG form WW2 was it in working condition???

BTW what happened to those shells in this cave?? they disapeared...?

We could paint our weapons however we saw fit. some of us were a little more artistic than others and some of us chose not to paint them at all. Man did they stick out unpainted in all those grey rocks.

No re-equip! As I progress through these pics you are probably gonna see a lot of different people. There was about 40 of us at any one time and we miss matched teams and went out in all manner of organization. So you might see pics of people that you haven't seen before. Just on the guys weapons in my tent were an Eotech, an ACOG (sp? mine), an aimpoint and another ACOG.

To tell you the truth I don't know what kind of machine gun that was. I would if I saw a high res pic. We took it home and put it on display.

Damn nice paint job.

shrek, what did your mate think about Eotechs sight in hard use? (other pictures) Did the sight get any damage during missions? What kind?
Does it keep zero well? Thanks.

shrek
05-04-2004, 01:57 PM
We had no problems with our Eotechs except that they collected dust like crazy. They held center well and were rugged enough if you took care of them. I might note here that if you see an Eotech on a weapon thatman paid for it with his own money. The National Guard don't pay for ****e!

The guy in the pic was one of the more artistic types!

One thing about Eotechs. Take plenty of batteries!!!!!!

Nice pic's shrek! once again.. :D
Did the eothech or any other of the sights mailfunction at any time? So you'd have to use backup iron sights? Like flat batterys on cold covert OP's..?

Shrek, what did you do with those munitions after you found them?

shrek
05-04-2004, 02:11 PM
Not that I remember at all. I'll ask my buddies that use them when I see them but I think I would have heard them cussing if they had, HA!

What's with the Russian kid?

shrek
05-04-2004, 02:48 PM
The munitions we blew in place!

The Russian kid? When the russians were there they fathered a lot fo babies, who, subsequently had babies of their own. Thus the blond headed, blue eyed, light skinned baby. There was an area where light skin was prevalent for other reasons but where we were they were either albino or russian!!

I've had an Eotech on my rifle for a while now, and besides it eating batteries and having to blow the dust out of it, I've not had any problems. It holds it's zero well, and I've had it out in temps ranging from 10F to 100F, again, no problems. On the colder days, seemed like the battery-life was shortened a bit, but it never failed to work right. They're definitely rugged, I've banged it around hopping in and out of vehicles, no problems...granted, if you take it and smash it over rocks, not much would go unscathed. Like shrek said, they're rugged enough if you take care of them.

Eotech has a great aiming reticule (some like some don't). I really like that 1 MOA dot, when Aimpoints 4 MOA dot looks too big for everything.

One thing I don't like in my Eotech. Vertically it doesn't matter where the reticule is in "mirror", bullets go every time where they should. But horizontal move of reticule makes hits move in target (to same direction as movement of reticule).

ofpeditor, have you noticed the same thing?

shrek
05-04-2004, 04:26 PM
Claymore:

Vertically we have a tendency to move fairly evenly, or straight up and downso the sigth would still hit where the reticle is.

Horizontally we tend to "cant" the rifle which causes the point off aim to be off, although the reticle stll looks on.

Is that as clear as mud?

Sorry to change the topic, but Shrek, did you take a helmet with you in Afghanistan? So far Ive seen pics of people wearing bush hats and baseball hats or watch caps. Also it seems to me most people are using the chinese(?) Ak-47 chest rigs. Did people there with you just take those and not bring anything else, or did they pick them up in country. And also (sorry last question i promise!) which did they prefer? thanks for you time.

Had my own after market helmet that I only wore if I "knew" there might be trouble. Like if we were going to a compund and saying "knock knock, can we come in?". I actually gave to my best friend who is going back soon.

We all had either Blackhawk, MOLLE or Spears vests. When we got there and they put us in those Toyotas we realized that they were not going to work, too much ****e on the sides. So, some of us bought chines stuff to just carry a basic load and some of us (me included) turned their MOLLE vests backwards and put everything up front. Something we learned from the 75th boys. They had been doing it for a while and showed us how to rig it. Leave it to a Ranger!

and also what do they put on their vest for cammo ive seen some liek olive drab vests with liek say white and sand and stuff added how do they do that?

We painted our weapons with "bowflage". It's sold at sporting good stores and is made for painting Bows and guns to hunt with. It comes with some stuff that is made to take it off easily, it doesn't work though. We found just dousing it in Simple Green and letting it stand over night loosened it up enough to get off.

As far as our vests went. If we went somewhere where there was foliage we wore our MOLLE or Spear vest and left them green. If we were going somewhere where there was no foliage we wore our chinese vests after lightly painting them with tan paint and then covering them with the dirt from the ground around us. The dirt stuck to the paint and voila, instant, perfect camoflage!

Kommando: I was in the SF in Afghanistan.

How long did you guys stay out there when patrolling?
Did you return to base every day or set up basecamps??

Looking forward to your answer :)

Thanks for answer.

I'm aware of what happens to hits in target if I cant my rifle and my problem is not because of it. If I move reticule left in Eotechs display, the area of hits will move left vertically at the same level as the aiming point in target, not left AND up/down.
If the reticule is far left up corner, the (very small, of course ;) ) area of hits will be about 150cm/60 inch left from target @ 150 meters/164 yards. And if the reticule is in right down corner, hits will be about 150cm/60 inch right from target at same shooting distance. No vertical movement of hits can be seen.
So that means that at least my Eotech isn't parallax free or some other reason it matters where the reticule is on display.

Well...it's not that big thing, because I know it...but it annoys me, because Eotech says:
"If the window is obstructed by mud, snow, rain, etc., the HWS remains fully operational , with point of aim/impact being maintained."
http://www.eotech-inc.com/images/obstruct.gif

...and my Eotech is model 552.

U.S. Army - RFI and EOTech Agreement
The U.S. Army has awarded EOTech, Inc. a contract for immediate supply of optical weapon sights. The contract acquires in excess of 6,000 EOTech standard commercial off-the-shelf, HOLOgraphic Weapon Sights (HWS) for use on M4 weaponry. The specific version is the night vision compatible AA battery military model 552.

Interesting.

We satyed out as long as 14 days but usually around 4 at a time. We circled the wagons and hunkered down or invited ourselves into an AMF compound for the nights!

nothing like driving from sun up to sundown in blazing 100+ heat, riding a riverebed that makes the truck a jackhammer with wheels, drinking water that you could poach an egg in, trying not to spray your funk-ass all over the truck - pull into the mountains right at dusk then fumble **** around in the dark trying not to fart too loud. And send traffic at contact time only to be told to prepare to rcv an urgent DAMA msg - you get everything set up, **** with the sat antenna, all with a blanket on your head to block light; only to rcv a weather report for another AO; but hey look on the bright side if you hurry and tear everything down and eat; you can get an hour of sleep before your gueard shift. Man I bet you wish it was always like that,

actually sometimes, I do.
