Does anyone here wear those UnderArmour shirts or anything like them? Are they pretty much all the same except that you pay for the name for UA? Looking to buy a few shirts and socks.

I use to wear UnderAmorur under my leathers when I rode....It overpriced for what you get, Just go to Wal-Mart and by their stuff for a quarter of the price, It was just as nice at least for what I used it for.

Sorry man but I have no experience with the socks.

In my opinion, you're better off with natural fibres next to skin. Wool is great. Try a merino wool baselayer and wool socks.

Icebreaker do merino baselayers:

If the socks are for your Combat Boots I recoment FoxRiver Blisterguard socks. I have been using them for years and they work great. They are dry out of the washing machine

5.11 makes some good stuff. In terms of tight gear that you would wear under your vests.

I wear UnderArmor heat gear under my uniform, and it works well, especially when it is really hot out. I know it is pricey, but well worth it if you have to wear it to work. I hope this helps.

X2. Since I work overseas I'm paranoid about stiff that melts, so I only wear wool and cotton. I swear by Smartwool socks. I've worn them from -50F to 120F, and they are far and away the best socks I've ever worn in my life.

For T-Shirts I go to target and buy the $12 kind. I just realized my socks cost more than my shirts! :cantbeli:

The school I went to last year gave our team UA stuff, it was top notch, but the school I go to now has Nike's version, drifit or whatever its called, it's not bad but I think that UA is the best. They really dominate the football and lacrosse market. Usually their stuff is a little more expensive but In my opinion it lasts a lot longer then the nike stuff I get now. I've had to replace a couple of the nike shirts that I got already, while the UA stuff has lasted for a long long time.

edit: However, if you are considering getting a pair of UA cleats and or shoes, I would hold off for a while, the first generation of footwear they came out with are not durable at all, the turf shoes got torn up real fast, guys just wear them to lift now. Any way, their socks are real good, I've had a pair for about 4 years and they still are game ready.

edit again: Having said all of the above I'm judging UA and their stuff solely on my use and my friends use during athletic events. I have heard and read that it is bad stuff when it comes in contact with fire, but if that is not a problem for your line of work then UA is good stuff. Like James said natural fibers are the best if you are dealing with fire in your line work.

I've gone running in summer in a Icebreaker Bodyfit 260 short sleeve and it was more comfortable than a cotton t-shirt. They also have a lighter range (Icebreaker runs their gear line by the weight of the fabric, 260 means 260gm per square meter) which might be more appropriate for wearing under armour; I'm not a soldier and have never worn armour so I can't comment on that.

Tell the truth though, it was probably only 25 celcius. Still better than a cotton t-shirt. Icebreaker boxer shorts are also the greatest, summer or winter. They're stupidly good in my experience.

I really like the UA shirts I think they work really well here in humid as hell Georgia. The UA socks on the other hand, are garbage. At least the ones I got were, tight, itchy and they made my toenails hurt(?!).
