Yeah, this bloke wants to kick my arse (Reasons unknown) aaaaand i've never had any self defence classes, and the only thing i know how to do is biff.
I would love to take up some kind of martial Art, that i could practise at home with minimal equipment, and is easy to learn and use against larger opponents.

What you blokes suggest for a martial Art that i could go and take lessons on that would boost my confidence and increase my fitness?
:D

All kinds of martial arts will boost your self confidens as well as giving you a good workout. It all depends on what you want to do, go test some different things and see what its like. Usually they have some kind of "open house" or "beginners night" or whatever they call it when newbies can come and test it out and see what its like.

I bet you could just drop in somewhere and tell the Sensei(or teacher or what they call him) that you are interested in it and would like to see what its like.

Jsut concentrate on excercise for a while. Running is excellent excercise and can be considered an excellent defense. ;) Seriously, let this meathead get his ass whipped by someone else who is into that sort of thing.

Also, if you do get into a fight, endurance is important if the other guy doesn't know how to take you out.

As far as self defense courses go, go to a school. Find one in your area and go ask to watch a class. Might want to check out a few. Find one thats right for you.

The two greatest martial arts in the world are still Tching-Pow and Ka-Boom.

If that doesn't work, kick him in the crotch.

Get the first hit in and keep laying into him until he is in the fetal position. Depending on how you are feeling lay the boot in. Controlled aggresion is the key. Of course it's always better to talk your way out of things, but sometimes you have to go the knuckle.

Yeah, he hasnt turned up fr two fights now.

Im trying to think of a plan, and a plan b, and c to use when i actually see him! hahaha.

I'm thinking, push him in the chest, which will shove him back, he'll come back with a swing, i'll duck, crack him in the nose, make his eyes water so he can't see, then hit him a few times more.

Learn to talk...

Learn when to run (fast)...

Try Krav maga, Ju-jutsu or Judo (I'm not an expert at any of them, but they are what most jap-slapping taught to western militaries is based on). That will teach you a bit of self-defence without the rest of the stuff that goes with most martial arts...

Start taking a martial art, I suggest Gracie style Ju-jitsu, Hapkido, or Judo to start simply because you learn throws and joint locks. I was a bouncer for four years and we would get in these melee fights, I have trained in the three styles Ive spoke of and also Tai-Kwon Do, Tai-jitsu, and studied the Tao of Jeet Kune Do. When **** hit the fan I would use the different styles and have the ability to "take out" multiple guys.
The downside to this is you become a target, see if you put one of these guys in a wrist lock and make him cry, yeah the others will back off but it could be a reverse effect and now everybody wants to be the guy that takes you down.

From experience, Judo is reactive only. Try Hapkido or Aikido. BTW, after being a teacher of martial arts, I can tell you that while martial arts don`t make you invincible (if you get punched good.....) but at least you will know what to do to another guy and gain lots of confidence.

One last thing, if you get into martial arts to kick someone ass, you are getting in for the wrong reasons

Hullebullen

Listen, learning a few moves if some dude is picking a fight with you really won't do any good...it takes training and experience to be a good fighter, that's why they call it martial "arts". I've trained Judo, Shotokan Karate and TKD since I was eleven (not at the same time though :) ) but I rather avoid a fight. If this guy you're talking about is just your regular bully - which it sounds like, you're better off avoiding him and if that's not possible, take it to the authorities.

If this guy is one of those human predators, psychos or what you like to call 'em, and really is intent on hurting you, talk to the authorities and get an equalizer...

Depends on your body type...Mui Thai is great if you are tall and athletic, Brazilian Jujitsu if you are stocky and strong. I'd advise you to take both for max result.

In the mean while, use a nunchuck if you want to kick his ass. All you have to do is wait until he gets closer and swing the nunchuck as hard as you can right @ his face. I'll guarantee he will chew his teeth for breakfast. Whatever you do don't use gun because violence is bad :D

Say is this high-school stuff or is this guy just out to get you on the street ?

If this is a School thing just tell him youll charge his ass to heaven and get him to pay for a couple of years of your life. If he comes after you just simply run and call the cops.Or better yet get him to run after you and run to a cop shop. If the guy is stupid enough he will follow you.

I dont know where you are from but depending on the law you might get charged with excessive force if you lay a ****kicking down on him. And if you both get arrested while in the heat of things itll be on your record forever.

IN any event charging him is better than fighting him.

A fun way to get fit it is though, its a hell of a workout. Just try shadow boxing for about ten minutes.

Bringing a weapon into the game when its all about fists is a real good way to have things escalate in the wrong way. And if the guy is crazy enough ,you in a bodybag.

Jack, You seem to have a serious problem when it comes to physical violence, do you life in a really nasty part of town or something ?
Didnt you make an extra thread about kicking someones ass sometime ago? You challenged him over the internet to a sparring match ? LOL.

How old are you ?

Oh yeah Stuntman, the nice ol headbutt, 99% - the fights over when you make contact with his nose.

I NEVER pick fights on the street because that would be stupid. I'd rather fight in a control environment like a gym/dojo. What are your suggestions? Pick a fight with him in a parking lot?

If you are over 10 years of age, then you should be able to differentiate between actual street fighting and fighting as a hobby.

Lol, Im a bit older than ten. What is controlled about telling the guy to get a set of nunchuks?
Invite him to a friendly knock em round session in the local dojo?
By the very fact you advise him if he wants to beat the living daylights outta him, to get a set of nunchuks, how can you advocate that you prefer dojo sparring sessions, instead of street fighting?

Pt- What does your x's new Bf have on you ?
WTH does he have anything to do with you. And why would the guy want to knock you out ?

Get into a martial art for fitness, not to be able to fight.

Most fights only last a few seconds anyway, the most important thing is to learn how to avoid them. ;)

If you can't avoid it, simply keep your hands up to guard your head and lash out with a couple well aimed hits. Use your body weight/momentum to lend power and preferably hit with your elbows/forearms into the guy's head. With three or four sudden, forcefull blows you will be able to disorientate the guy, giving you a good head start when you leg it! Cos that's what you really should do. It is unlikely that they would follow you far. If anyone really wanted to hurt you badly, they'd have brought a weapon.

As mentioned above, don`t go into martial arts to beat the crap out of someone. If you just want to be left alone and this guy is your regular asshole, a solid whack to the nuts, neck, nose, shins or solar flex should do it. However if this guy is slightly or completely nuts, then you are much better off avoiding the fight, as things will get out of hand fast.

I am not a fighter, although I have been in a few and seen a few more. My girlfriend in high school's father was Chief Deputy of Gibson County Sherrif's office and he told me once that fighting was for amateurs. Amateurs fight and professionals "end" it, according to him.

He said first thing is hit a guy in the nose open handed with the goal of breaking the nose. Most people quit at that point and then he would cuff them. The ones that don't are dangerous as hell and he said get away. I figured at the time he was just trying to scare me.

In college I saw a fight where a guy did this and I talked to him later and he heard it from a cop and swore by it. Never tried it but it makes sense. I have broken my nose before and I sure did not feel like getting hit again at that point I can assure you.

Course if your up against Mehoff thie trick would probably just piss him off and then you're screwed, so what do I know.

There are too many damn lawsuits going on these day. It's stupid if you got into a fight with some guy on the street and he sues you after you kick his ass, although he started the fight (thanks to vulturous lawyers) . If I ever fight someone, I want it to be in a dojo/gym with a written contract. Better safe than sorry.

well personally if hes bigger then you its a good idea you get the first shot in (I personally reccomend a kick to the stomach). If this lands and makes a solid connection (kick like your kicking down a door and catch him off gaurd) it should knock the wind outta him. Next two things will happen, either he backs up or he bends over.

Well if he bends over this is going to get easy, grab him by the back of the head (or hair if possible) and knee him repeatidly in the face (make sure you dont let his arms cover his face, if they do hit him as hard as you can under the shoulder in his arm pit its a nerve center). Normally this will make them drop, from there hes easy bait as you know hes not going to stop kicking your ass when hes on the ground so why should you?

If you want to get tough, get some boxing gloves a couple pairs and a couple friends and a couple beers/mouth guards. I myself had an "aggressive" to say the least, older brother. So I'm used to fighting much bigger opponents.

Yay, so throwing the first punch is not an option. Because that would make it aggrovated assault, not self defence.

Be very careful with just picking up a few moves. I saw it a lot in our brotherhood and it doesn't always end nice. You see, after a couple of classes you start being very confident about your skills, almost all beginning martial artist have this. If you ever have to fight, the only way you can use martial arts is when the moves have become reflexes. In a fight you don't have the time to think, and your body takes over. Unfortunatly, been there, done that. You see your body moving without your brain knowing what your body is doing, ;) sort of.

Repetition is the keyword in martial arts, so after just a few classes or even half a year or something, most of the moves you have in you aren't reflexes yet, although you feel they are and that can lead to overstimation of yourself.

So if you still think about taking martial arts classes. Persist!, don't quit after a couple of moves, but do it for at least a couple of years.

Hope I could be of help

not the teeth they can break off and chip into the bones of your hand than give you a nasty infection that could lead to amputation if not taken care of.......hit him in the eye or nose......the eye will mess up his vision throwing him off.........and if you hit in the nose the pain is good, but he can choke on the blood and also make it harder to breath, and causes eyes to water...so if he is not used to it could be the deciding factor of who is the victor..
