Is there any way to tell the visual difference between PASGT, MICH and LWH helmets, in photos of soldiers wearing them (with covers)? Do these models all look the same, with just the padding or material being different? And how come the Army (MICH) and Marines (LWH) don't both use the same new helmet?

The MICH is a different shape from the PASGT/LWH. The LWH is similar in shape to the PASGT, which is part of the reason the Marines adopted it.

Didn't you want to aks this question in the airsoft section?

The MICH/ACH has a smaller shell than the PASGT and the LWH, resulting in less coverage around the neck, but better comfort, especially when going ****e. The LWH has the same shape as the old PASGT helmet, but is made from lighter materials and uses an advanced suspension.

So you would be able to tell the difference between an MICH/ACH and an PASGT/LWH from it's shape -with helmet cover or without - and the difference between an PASGT helmet and the LWH by the suspension straps.

As the both gentlemans said - The shape is different and the suspension is the most visible difference.

Marines don't have the MICH mainly because they can't afford it or don't think there's enough reason to afford it. You'll find their recon guys and such use the MICH. It's a better helmet without a doubt.

Marines don't have the MICH mainly because they can't afford it or don't think there's enough reason to afford it.Yes, that's why they brought entirely brand-new Lightweight Helmets. The Marines chose the LWH over the ACH because it provides superior coverage, not because of financial deficiencies.

Plus the ACH's standard retention system sucks hard and gave reason for many after-market solutions from the private sector.

Every organization has to come up with what it thinks best fits its mission profile. Hence the differences. The Army and SF feel that lighter is better, while the Marines want better coverage.

Thanks for the links and explanations guys, very helpful info! :)

And if anyone who has a Youtube account would like to explain the PASGT helmet and the cover slits to this guy, I'm sure he'd appreciate it... ;)

I hate qualifying with the PASGT. The ****e postion and the PASGT didn't run well together. The ACH does not push forward when you are ****e. It is alot better in the respect. It is nice and light too. I dont like the fact that it does not have a brim though.
