Is thread locking a new trend that has picked up in my short leave of absence? I know that many of these threads get a bit heated and ridiculous.. but WOW.. this lock out trend seems to be popular today. Mods must have their reasons..
So is there still just too much stupidity going on.. or are the mods in attack mode suddenly?

Most of the threads locked today relate to the US treatment/mistreatment at Al Graib, and are all posted by the same person, and are intended to add fuel to the flames of an already volaitile situation.,this is his style
I have stated the reason for locking them all you need to do is read them mate.
There is simply no need to keep this subject going with threads of a similar nature when the responses are the same.........so to avoid any hassles they get locked

I guess I couldn't find out what the reason for locking the anti Bush thread. I read most of them.. but didn't make the connection with the same author.

I locked that one as it got way off topic ,and despite a warning to get back on topic it made no difference........so I hit that button again.
FYI it started about Israel V's Palestine .........again,with our resident German Middle East expert asking for proof about certain things ;)

An American posts about GWB, others post news-posts about the thing dominating the news right now - they all get locked.
The off-topic-forum has gone down into a hole and nothing gets locked, even after obious flames and attacks on character, '****** preference' or belief.
Ofcourse many of the threads in General Discussion should be locked - but frankly, some users should be dragged out into the forrest and shot after the wars in off-topic-section. It's not even remotly fun to read there anymore. Can't find any of the funny or humoures posts between all the crap now.

Because they are in the off topic forum, tho I agree the threads about ****** prferences are starting to get too persoanl......but all it takes is a PM and action will be taken

Then perhaps you can add some light relief then? Tho My own opinion is that there are some individuals who are treading a fine line in everything they post, they are inciting flames which is against forum rules, what EVERYONE here need to remember, and that includes myself and the other moderators are that we are guests in Hoods Domain, and we should behave accordingly

As I mentioned, wasn't necesearly against the looking of threds here (even if some started out fine, but later...) it's the threads that are 5 times worse in the other segment I as raising consearne about.
When the biggest flame-wars was running here some weeks ago the off-topic forum was always a nice place to retreat too. Before some though off-topic meant 'off-rules'.

actually... a few were locked the other night. I believe 3 in one night. As far as I'm concerned... it's been out of hand, but it's getting a little better. Perhaps a mod to handle off topic would be in order. There is a lot to keep up with, and the mods are working men... they are doing a good job. :D

One would think no rules, judging from the **** stash in the off-topic part. p-) Ok, most of them have clothes on, but do we really have to see James' manly-man Marine? p-)
If Argyll and my other fellow moderators see fit to close a thread, I'd put good money on them having a reason for it. They have all been very good about only closing repetitive, insensitve threads; they have not been thought police.
Have a good one, and just some thoughts...

Hey... lay off the manly man marine... p-)
I think all of you mods have been doing a good job. It's a difficult line to walk... knowing what's still free speech and what's finally over the line. I trust your judgement. Thank you for doing what you do. (but leave James and his super cool avatar alone!!!)

Don't get me wrong.. I just have been out of the loop a bit and wanted to get an understanding about the heavy thread locking that I saw. Not all of the reasons were that clear. I may not agree with all the reasons.. but I definately think the Mods are clearly doing a good job.
My understanding now is that the elevated control is an effort to retard some of the more aggressive morons in this forum.
Farmgirl and California Joe would be great mods for off topic. Well... for all of the forums actually.

huh huh you said "do it" hehehe
I think it would be cool if Hood let us assign "titles" to people like on Socnet, some of those are damn funny. Make this more fun and less like work.
example :D :

So now you can lock this thread as well Argyll. To
feel like you have power and everything (no I wasn´t
picking on your moderator skillz this time).
Perhaps if you had taken the time to read what I said right at the start and also during this thread, you'd know when and why this will get locked,so far I have not observed the same **** that the others contained from certain individuals......................in the meantime please accept this award for acting in a manner Oh so familiar.
