View Full Version : BBC sorry for calling Jerusalem capital of Israel..
The BBC apologized this week for referring to Jerusalem (http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1181813036973&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull#) as Israel's capital, and promised not to repeat "the mistake," following a complaint by four British organizations. Arab Media Watch, Muslim Public Affairs Committee, Friends of Al-Aksa and the Institute of Islamic Political Thought sent a joint complaint to the BBC after a presenter on its Football Focus program on March 24 mentioned that Jerusalem was Israel's capital and "historic soul." ...............

including the USofAActually you are mistaken. The USA does recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. It just hasn't gotten around to moving the embassy there yet. Any day now...
And of course you're mistaken about the BBC too. The BBC rocks about as much as a Punk Mullah Band in a funeral parlour.

It's far less than half the world. And even the US does not consider the occupied East Jerusalem to be part of Israel (at least not yet ).

What are you complaining about? If they do that then they will also have to start calling the IDF 'illegal Zionist occupation forces' - just to keep everything factually correct :)

23. August 2011, BBC correspondent Muhammed Abdul Aziz reports from Palestine:
Today the illegal ZOG again cowardly thwarted an honourable martyr operation in an infidel Zionist school bus. The BBC prays that the martyrs shall succeed next time (insha'allah), and Muhammed (swt) shall be pleased.

Remember last year? When BBC admitted, that they are biased? I guess nothing has changed since then...
One senior BBC executive admitted to the ‘Daily Express’, "There was a widespread acknowledgement that we may have gone too far in the direction of political correctness. Unfortunately, much of it is so deeply embedded in the BBC's culture, that it is very hard to change it."http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3318582,00.html

Jerusalem is Israel's official capital. The international community is refusing to place their embassies there, so not to offend the Arab/Muslim world. Most countries place their embassies in Tel Aviv and so people think that TA is the capital.
As to why the world refuses to recognize Jerusalem, it's a wole story with 1967 war which is a whole different thread.

They don't recognise Jerusalem because it was supposed to have been under the control of the U.N. so neither Israel or Palestine/Jordan had control.
btw who first occupied Jerusalem Israel or Jordan or was it a deal that Jordan would have East and Israel west?

The plan to internationalize Jerusalem was not a permanent plan, but designed to last 10 years to which Israel had agreed but the Aab world did not; their goal was to make sure no Jewish sate would be established.
When Arab countries attacked Israel in 48 whatever Israel was able to hold is known as the West and Jordan took conrol of the East. Jordan was the aggressor when it took control of the East.

Well, in the days of the war the Jordanians were barraging the western side of the city with artillery and were sieging it, at that time there was supposed to be a vote of the residents of the city whether they want it to be turned into an international city. When Ben Gurion saw that the UN doesn't give a damn about the residents and doesn't care that they are being fired by snipers and bombed by shells and barely have food and water he said, "this resolution is canceled" and that it lacks any moral base.

Each language gets its own wikipedia, .com is american. i wouldnt be surprised if arab wikipedia says that israel does not exist.
As far as the United States in 2000 a resolution was made to move the embassy to Jeruslaem, has not been implemented as of yet though.
On a side note, I love the fox news reports though. "Last week Hamas militants kidnapped Fatah official and threw him off the roof of a 15 story building, and what does it mean to us? The spring break in Gaza has officially started"

Because most of the world recognizes the Jewish state but does not recognize Jerusalem as the Capital,
even many moderate Jews wish that the more moderized Tel-Aviv became the capital instead of the old-city because it would get away from all that religious BS.

You don't sound like a secular at all
Firstly - I don't believe in fairytales about mohammed, roman catholic writings, paganism, the greek zeus, buddah's divinity or some burning bush. I believe in a world of science and logic, America is still a free country and have a right to to believe in science and think of these fairytales to be BS or whatever.
Secondly - there have been many people in Israel like Yitzhak Rabin who thought it a mistake to make Jerusalem the capital and said Tel-aviv would be a much better & safer capital, without historical divisions.
A lot of the Arabs acted like idoits and many Arabs caused a lot of their own suffering after they attacked Israel, they were beaten by the Israelis but this is a totally seperate debate.
Today there are still people in many Israeli government offices who feel Tel-Aviv should have remianed the Capital and still a majority of countries that don't recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Why not? Because I don't think that Judaism and bible is BS? I don't know about your country, but in my country being secular doesn't mean to be a person who thinks that Judaism and the bible is a BS.
The bible is history of our people (Jewish), it's not only religion, there is no way we will refuse our history or call it a BS, it's completely insane.
Firstly - I don't believe in fairytales about mohammed, roman catholic writings, paganism, the greek zeus, buddah's divinity or some burning bush.
I don't say that you have to believe in any of them but I bet that your knowledge about any of the religions you mentioned is close to 0. Well maybe except burning bush... Otherwise you wouldn't put all the religions in one basket and then call the basket a BS. Every religion is different, there are religions that have many true and interesting points, teachings and a lot more (ten commandments for example). Your way of judging them so easy proves that basically you don't seem to have enough knowledge about the subject, therefore you better think twice before you call all of the religions a BS.
I believe in a world of science and logic, America is still a free country and have a right to to believe in science and think of these fairytales to be BS or whatever.
Everyone has a right to think what he wants, I don't believe in Christianity for example, but I wouldn't call it a BS, it's unrespectful to people who believe in it and I respect their belief.
Secondly - there have been many people in Israel like Yitzhak Rabin who thought it a mistake to make Jerusalem the capital and said Tel-aviv would be a much better & safer capital, without historical divisions.
Those people are minority (liberals), and Rabin is a bad example, which is completely a different subject.
A lot of the Arabs acted like idoits and many Arabs caused a lot of their own suffering after they attacked Israel, they were beaten by the Israelis but this is a totally seperate debate.
I agree with you.
Today there are still people in many Israeli government offices who feel Tel-Aviv should have remianed the Capit Becual and still a majority of countries that don't recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Look, those countries act in their interest, their interest is not to decide what is better for Israel but what is better for them, for them it's better to avoid problems with Arabs, therefore why should they recognize Jerusalem?
Everyone can think what they want, but Jerusalem is capital of Israel, that's it.

Why do we Israelis need to have Jerusalem "recognized" as our capitol?
As long as we see it as our capital that's more than enough...
It's the same story with us having our right to exist "recognized" by the Arabs as was explained by Abba Eban.
“Nobody does Israel any service by proclaiming its 'right to exist.'
Israel's right to exist, like that of the United States, Saudi Arabia and 152 other states, is axiomatic and unreserved. Israel's legitimacy is not suspended in midair awaiting acknowledgement....
There is certainly no other state, big or small, young or old, that would consider mere recognition of its 'right to exist' a favor, or a negotiable concession.” (New York Times, November 18, 1981).

The book of Bible is not at all historical. It surely does contain historical elements, as much as any other books of religions and sects. Yet it's far from saying "it's history". You can use the more general term "heritage"; although the Old Testament is a very controversial example of an ideal heritage.

The Bible is a matter of faith, even though there are many archaeological discoveries based on it. Like the city of Megido for example.
So let's leave faith and talk History-
There is a centuries if not thousands of years old Jewish quater in Jerusalem's old city (Situated east Jerusalem). Along with Muslim, Christian and Armenian quaters.
The Romans have captured Jerusalem from the Jews roughly 2000 years ago, not from Palestinians or Arabs. They build the Arc of Titus to honor that victory. The arc named after the Imperor Titus who conquered Jerusalem, still stands today at the Circus Maximus area in Rome.
At the time of Jerusalem's surrender to the Romans- There was no sustained Arab rule outside the the Arabian peninsula, there was no Islam yet, and todays European nations were barbarian tribes fighting the Romans in Germany and elsewhere.
So relatively to us- The Arabs are newcomers to Jerusalem. Compare 3000 years of history (before the Romans as well) to 1400 years.
