Yeah, I just realized how stupidly obvious the answer would be. Doh!:cantbeli:

Canteen is just there as a place holder for now, I'm just gonna be using that as a admin type pouch an on the other side have my NVGs or whatever. Gonna use my camelbak instead of a canteen.

It's all bottles of water over there man, Just fill up your Kit with the plastic bottles. Use your camel back as an E&E type bag. Water, ammo, protein bars, strobe, map, **** like that. The camel back gets kind of grimey if you use it for water after a while.
Chest rig looks good to go, kind of like the one I had over there. Good luck on your tour. Get some.
A lot of us brought our chest rigs to the mat tech, and got a piece sewn between the two shoulder straps, so instead of having them cross in the back it was more like an H. WHen you have it fully loaded it can be hard on the neck. Test it out, you may like the H style better.

Wow a little quick off the mark with that comment.
A few of those who have posted have a wee bit more experience than airsoft.

I do not know where you were at, but I would personaly keep my 2qt canteen, and add another on the other side to balance out. Or, I would put either a spare ammo pouch or something else there instead.
You just might want that water, especially if its hot, and you get cutoff and are not able to go to base area.

He is in a Mech (LAV) Battalion, which of course doesn't mean he will not need water, What I meant was leave the canteen back and fill the pouch up with the water bottles.
Either fill the camel bak up and refill it after each op (saving that water for emergency), or take out the blatter and replace it with water bottles, I just find the camelbaks are hard to clean, and they leak a lot.
He will be going to A-Stan, where I was.

Ahh..I see..I was going to say..I see alot of pics on here of soldiers not carrying canteens or camel backs..I would like to educate those who do this and tell them it is a bad idea to leave your canteen or drinking pouch (camelback) back at base. These guys may be in mech units, or be in armor units, and have access to 5 gal water jugs, but those jugs run out..and if you get cut off and not able to go back to your base or camp, it gets mighty parched out there with nothing to drink.....
Any whoooo....thats a really nice chest rig...I am sorry for hijacking the thread, but I thought someone was givng someone some really terrible advice

No, thats not really what i meant.... Overseas now you get cartons upon cartons of 500ml water bottles. It's like having a canteen that you can just replace instead of fill up. Or you can fill it up with a Jerry can instead.
I see your point about soldiers not bringing canteens out in the field, but the water bottles you get now can be used just like a canteen. ANd I think everyone gets issued Nalgene bottles over there now.

Thanks for all the replies/comments. I'll be carrying a few bottles on me for sure, but I'll probably still be wearing my camelbak(until it gets to disgusting to drink out of if I can't clean it often).

Hey DnA, the dietician was briefing us the other day.. I asked about using Crystal light packs for the bottles, she said it is safer than any of the actual sugar drinks (she mentioned Gatorade powder in particular) as the actual sugar enzyme will turn camelback bladders or even reused 500ml bottles all nasty.
The boys that have been over recommended filling my unaccompanied baggage full of them, as they help keep the water flavour a little more exotic.
Cheers!

I heard that there is something bad about aspartame thought, Not sure about the specifics.... But I really like the crystal light stuff. We had gatorade issued over there. Most of the time I just drank the water straight though... Rations and whanot will give you a lot of nutrients.

It wasn't a question of nutrients.. it was a question of the taste being bland.
I sent out a whole selection of the sweet and salty granola bars, and will be taking trail mix with me on the plane. I also splurged at walmart and bought three of those little tourist bottles of maple syrup.. I am sure that'll come in handy BIG time once I hit the ground, any other pointers?

Ha.... Well there is a lot fo stuff at the PX and I heard that Canada House is supposed to have grown. Get spits, good Canadian Beef Jerky, anything else you will miss, like hot sauce other then tobasco. They have a burger king. subway, pizza hut and Hortons in KAF now, so variety shouldn't be a problem, there are also like 4 different mess halls, which I think are all KBR. **** is like curency. If you have any other questions don't be afraid to ask.

Ah yes...subway, pizza hut and all the other amenities of a camp that Bzzlightyear will never see...until of course you are a camp champ,or a hesco hobbit...We get all kinds of crystal light and drink supplements outside the wire. If you really think you need that, just mail it to yourself, and worry about packing your kit with more important comodoties. We never mix any drink mix into out camelbaks, in fact not many guys like to carry them at all...however, we do carry the 500ml containers and throw them away when finished.
Now for the chest rigs...Anything that will help you hump all your ammo and mags is better than the issued P.O.S. most of the troops over here are using, but once again it's job oriented...I saw a trucker with one on the other day and laughed my ass off...not to mention he looked like he spent one to many days in the main camp in line at burger king.

What a KAF?? haha. I will be out the wire big time on my tour but that's okay... I hadn't thought of my Frank's hot sauce until now, thanks. Spits, beef jerky from Mulders in Gagetown, all things that I am sure my (loving?) wife can send me...how long does a parcel take to get to KAF/FOB from home?
