View Full Version : Army SF and ACU
Thrawn

Since the intoduction of ACU (rendered in UCP) in 2005, have Special Forces operators (SF, Delta, Rangers, whomever) out in the field in Afghanistan and Iraq largely made the transition over to the ACU like the rest of the Army, or, because they're SF and like to do what works for them, have they been sticking to the DCUs outfitted in the old three-color desert pattern? Have special forces have looked at UCP and said, "Thanks, but no thanks", or have they accepted it and made the transition along with the rest of the Army?
Note: I know SEALs and Air Force special forces are still wearing the old three-color pattern, but that's only because their services haven't adopted an alternative yet. I'm just asking about the Army. Thanks in advance for you input.

yes, I have seen Green berets in south Afghanistan using ACUs. However they are still using 3 color desert as well. Rangers are using ACUs too, I have not been seeing any Rangers in 3 color lately.

Um no Pete, that would be gay.
They are WearFirst pants, whatever the hell that is.
Probably won't last as long as my Carhartts
'WearFirst' is hardly a good brand name for trousers. Why would you want them to wear first? Surely the longer they take to wear through the better? Perhaps 'WearLast' would be a better name, or even 'NeverWear'.
I don't approve. :-(
@HOLLiS: ^ I definitely don't approve!

When I was a kid, Sears used to make these kids jeans called Toughskins. The goddamned things were made of some kind of alien fabric that wouldn't fade or tear. Ever. They probably are still in landfills now. They came in Slim, Regular and Husky. My brother had to get Huskies. That always made me laugh.

It was like they applied polyurethane over the denim. Water beaded up on them. They could stand on their own, without being dirty. Even the hand me downs kept going strong. They were like the diesel engines of jeans.
Hollis, the only time you really should use the term Husky for women, is if you are talking about the old Soviet/Eastern bloc female athletes; I remember seeing an East German female swimmer that had shoulders bigger than Brian Oldfield (USA shot put world record holder - for youngsters). Yikes...

Yeh, but when you are paying for pants every week because your kids are tearing holes in them everytime they go out in the yard and play, you tend to gravitate twords durability.
Kids these days don't have that problem.

Yep, back when all you wanted was some cool faded Levis with a couple of holes in them and got frigging red jeans with built in knee pads. I hated those things. My "Husky" little brother grew up and became a 6'4" All state football Tackle. I think it was the years of abuse that made him so agressive....:)

Levis were top-shelf, Tier 1 britches. I would have settled for the Plain Pockets from JC Penny, and some gen-u-wine Converse All*Stars (Chuck Taylors) instead of the plastic soled K-Mart knock-offs.

I lived in Ocean Pacific shorts because my parents refused to buy me "expensive" Levis but shoes were never a problem, anything to get me out of flip flops I guess.
We didn't have too many Izod wearing preppies where I grew up in San Clemente, CA.

In 1983 (my freshman year) the folks moved to Mission Viejo and I started high school there in the center of the Izod shirt, flipped up collar, preppy rich kid land with a bunch of refugee's from the Mid-West.
