Task Force 1st Armored Division Conducts Successful Operations
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Task Force 1st Armored Division Soldiers killed twenty-four attackers, wounded one attacker, detained 61 individuals and captured several weapons caches during incidents in south central Iraq starting May 4.
Nine attackers were killed around 5:30 p.m. after they fired rocket-propelled grenades at a patrol from 2nd Battalion, 37th Armor. One insurgent was killed, one wounded and 61 detained during operations by TF 1 AD's 2nd Brigade Combat Team near the cities of Mulla Fayed and Yusifiyah starting at 8 p.m. The operations also resulted in a significant seizure of weapons, ammunition and communications equipment. Five insurgents were killed after they were observed unloading rocket-propelled grenade launchers and rifles from a van by a 2-37 patrol.
Six attackers were killed around 4:30 a.m. May 5 in an engagement with a 2-37 patrol. Finally, three attackers were killed around 7:15 a.m. May 5 when they attacked a guard tower at a Coalition base.
