Ahhh, The award was given I am assuming because the poster was specifying America / Americans the United States if you want to be specific and their role in Africa's misery.

When I saw the initital post I was gonna take the bait and respond with something akin to your post, just letting the young man know we Americans didn't create Africa's suffering and as an earlier poster said have done a bit to help out.

My father is from West Africa (Ghana) and I decided to study there (Senegal) for a summer.

Anyway the prof. had us read a book "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" basically a premise basing today's woes are a direct result of the colonial period of Europe in Africa.

Caveat, while Euro-Colonialism had it's faults, Europe blanketly did not in all instances / is not currently inflicting some type of torture on Africa. History does have it's demons.
