I just got the Ubuntu version of Linux of one of my computers, the problem that I have is that I can't get any sound for youtube. I can listent to music off a CD but anything on the web is mute. What is the problem?

Also, on my other computer that I tried to install Ubuntu, I can't use the mouse or keyboard, Logitech MX5000, it is USB bluetooth. Before going into Xwindow, but once I go into Xwindow I can't do sh!t with my mouse or keyboard. Does anyone here know why?

the best place for Ubuntu help is www.ubuntuforums.org. There are a few people here that run it, but not as many as over there.

me have ubuntu but no sound problems...

Can you play mp3 from your disk? Playing CDs is a hardware thing...
maybe you need to install
alsa-tools-gui
alsa-tools

then run alsamixer or kmix or else and push all bars up...

You also can tell flash player to use ALSA(linux new sound subsystem) instead to what it uses now but I forgot how to do that :) ... As for mouse I don't know I don't have bluetooth thing so can't help you... As chukie said look into ubuntuforums, you can find there solution for your problem if it exists :)

LOL rofl

I do have XP, even Vista, but I like certain stuff on Linux as well.

Also thanks for all the help, going to try them out now.

I gave up, tried everything on Ubuntu forum, no go. Totally don't understand the problem, took the disc to my friend's house, installed it on his computer, runs fine. Sound and everything. Since I tried pretty much everything myself, got hold of my mate who works at Geek Squad to try and have a go at it, still no go so I am giving up Ubuntu for now, I am going back to Elive.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

This should work. Also check out the repositories and make sure you have the right ones enabled.

I couldn't get any sound or video when I first tried Ubuntu... turns out there's no working Flash for the 64-bit distro. I'm now using the 32-bit distro with no problems besides the fact that I can't watch DiVX clips.

Keep trying! Ubuntu is really neat when you get it set-up. It's got some great GUI features and all the built-in software is really handy.

Even my mate who works at GeekSquad couldn't do anything about the problems so I don't really know what to do. I like Ubuntu a lot, the language support (traditional Chinese) and some of the features are great but I just don't know what to do anymore. As to the 32bit and 64 bit thing, I originally installed the 64 bit version. However since reinstalling it the second time around, it is the 32 bit one now and still no go.
