View Full Version : Need advise in choosing plate carier
Hi to all. There ia a problem that i can hardly solve..
I have to choose between Eagle's non-releasable ciras and Plate Carrier W/Cummerbund from same company. Have to note that most of time i'am working on 4x4 car.
The problem is that here in Israel Eagle ind' not represented by any company at all, so i cant just go and see or try it on me. I supposed to use it in military reserve.
Thanks a lot.

I have no answer, but another question for opinion for people. What about TAG's non-releasable carrier? Any opinions or experiences of that?

I've got a TAG on the way. I'll report again when I get it.

ETA: For what its worth, I have a HSGI Woosatch "A" size. It works very well. Once loaded with plates, ammo and water, its good to go. The buckles are backwards in my opinion. To tighten the rig you need to pull to the rear, where as a pull to the front would be easier for the user. Very well constructed and lifetime guarantee.

I've used both the Ciras and the Eagles plate carrier with cumberbund. The plate carrier is by far better IMO. It's just 10xs less bulky. We got issued this bag that comes with shoulder pads and such though. Not sure if you can obtain that also.

Well, so do I, that's why I was asking... :) But I think we can both report & let others know what we think.

I own an Eagle Plate Carrier With Cummerbund, and I've worked with the CIRAS as well. The main advantage IMO for the Plate Carrier is you get more flexibility and ability to move. This is because the plate carrier with the rigid plates inside can actually slide give way to some extent in relation to the separate soft body armor under the plate carrier. You have probably worn body armor with integrated plates so you know how they make you feel stiff when the plates are held tightly in place by the vest.
The other advantage is (assuming you do wear soft armor) you can remove the plate carrier which is heavy with gear during brakes and still retain some level of protection. I know somebody will moan about this and say you never remove your gear on operations, but at least I have to from time to time.
Disadvantages with the plate carrier is its slower to remove in an emergency than the CIRAS and you have to be careful to adjust it so the plates really cover the vital areas.
If you decide on the plate carrier, be sure to get the one with the cummerbund. The price difference is minimal and the cummerbund can be removed if desired. A good source is Triad Tactical. They sell Eagle stuff at good prices and are reliable and fast overseas shippers.
Thanks a lot to all of you. I probably will get a plate carrier.

Elia, have you seen this IDF plate carrier? It might be a cheaper alternative to the Eagle vests...

The guy also has an ebay store. I think he sells two versions of this modular vest. One that has plate pockets and one without..

Have you ever used this vest?
Rememeber, Elia is going to be using this in a real world environment were the consiquences for crappy gear could be life altering.
Keep that in mind when handing out suggestions.

Crappy? This vest is used by the IDF, including special operations forces. I was just making a suggestion.

I didn't say it was crappy, I just said that unless you actually know first hand, or know someone that has used this system, it could be.
You're probably right, I'm being a grump.
Nevermind.

I used this one. And Marom Dolphin makes high grade gear for LE and Military.
Very good one. A little bit expensive with pouches, but worth each shekel.
You can buy directly from Marom, call em...

BTW its a same gear that supplied to local SF community. Army and Police elite units. Better plates choice you can seek at Hagor.
IMHO

Well, so do I, that's why I was asking... :) But I think we can both report & let others know what we think.
I got the TAG plate carrier this week, and I had a chance to go shooting with it today. It seems pretty ok so far.
Good things are that it is dead simple to use, but has a lot of room for adjustment. It can be configured to use with or without frag vest in a minute or so, and it really seems to be one size fits all. I'm not a real big guy at 180cm / 90kg, and although it is possible to make the vest fit smaller guys I think for me it is about optimum. I had only a t-shirt under it and the fit was very good, and the vest didn't move around at all when going ****e, kneeling etc. This due to the elastic strips on the sides that allow the vest to be tight but still let you move. These strips may be a possible weak point though, but that we will see later.
Closing the vest is fast & easy, and so is taking it off too. there is about 10x15 cm double sided(attached to the elastic strips) velcro fastening on both sides, which does seem to be adequate so far. Again we'll see how the velcro behaves after getting some dirt on it, and is the size of the attachment large enough. Vest comes off from injured person without the need to move him.
Vest is very comfortable to wear, and doesn't feel too hot. Of course I was sweating like a pig at 27C temperature (I really don't like warm weather), but I didn't feel at all overheated. I think partially open sides help that a lot.
Quality of workmanship is very good (and so was the service at TAG I might add), and I couldn't find anything wrong with it so far. There are also a lot of nice details on the carrier, that I think show that there was some thought & design time put in to this product. I especially like the way the size adjustment works since I wear the vest with and without the frag vest under it.

Matchanu, i am using Marom plate carrier on a daily basis, it is not bad at all, BUT...
1.It is interchangeable only with Marom pouches that uses velcro instead of molle system.
2.Marom's line of pouches is very small (i mean not much options)
3.The owner of Marom is friend of mine and he said that he has some probs with changing to molle (probably legal patent stuff)
p.s. THANKS FOR ADVISING
