We've all seen the vid, a AH-64 engages 4 people from a distance, I don't know if the discussions about this vid here were closed, I would like to post some constructive posts here, but it's only my second one and already it has to be one this sensitive...
Here we go.
A French programme broadcasted 30 sec of the full 7 minute clip, only showeing the helicopter engaging the people, and they stated they attacked without reason or threat on the part of the Iraqi's.
The full vid clearly shows the Iraqi's placing weapon-like objects into the field, acting quite bizarre. The pilot asks permission to engage, get's clearence, and executes his orders with great professionality.
It could be an honetst mistake. But... I watch the evening news here in Belgium, and tadaa! They broadcast the ENTIRE 30 SEC clip, where "Innocent unarmed non-hostile civilians were gunned down without mercy by the cowardly hiding Americans!" Ok, free interpretation
I don't want to discuss the war in Iraq, but the role of the media. Over the past few days, there was been enough bad news coming from there, with the mistreating of prisoners, but I would like to express my admiration for the researcher who dug this material up (prolly on the PC of his 9 year old son , and managed to get this top secret classified material that has been shown on US television ONLY 4 months ago, and that has been circling the net ever since, giving most of the population of France, Belgium and numerous other countries a complete wrong view of the sad events that night.
I'm sorry, but this had to be said. THis is (anotehr?) good example of what damage the press can do, me and about 50 other people have been active on the news stations' forum, trying to get them to understand what happened. People with the name "News anchor" replied...
This evening, news... the EXACT SAME CLIP WITH EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION...
mother of god...
They should air the full 7 minute clip instead of 7 minutes of commercials, but I guess that won't give them as much profit or viewers... <this could have been a great opportunity to show the world the horrors of modern war, but it's turned into another US-bashing... Sad...
If this post is inflammatory or turns into one, feel free to lock it, I would like to discuss press-freedom and the ways they should check their info.
And yes, I stayed up all night cos of PC problems so I'm a bit cranky, forgive me...
