sounds like the bloke was an ass and did everything to deserve what he got
wonder what would have happened if the stand you ground laws were in effect?

Sounds more like a race issue than LGBT. The court sees a bunch of black people fighting and one getting stabbed and treat it like it was gang violence or something. If the women did not possess or use a knife at the time however I can't imagine how the DA convinced the jury they were at fault in the stabbing.

I'm pretty sure you can defend yourself anywhere in the US no matter what lifestyle you lead ie Pink Pistols group...

on the contrary the gays and lesbians are becoming or have already become a protected class in the US.

This story just reeks of something...here is a link (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime_file/2007/04/19/2007-04-19_lesbian_wolf_pack_guilty.html) that tells a slightly different story.

The two articles still make unclear of the entire story - video is mentioned in article one but not in article two, 3 lesbians in article one plus 2 males coming to break up/aid and 7 lesbians are mentioned in article 2... Article 2 mentioned crass come on by the male and brawl that ensued, article 1 makes the stabbed victim caught on tape battering one of the women in the manner that could present grievous bodily harm and/or death...

Then article 2 claims that 3 plead guilty (out of 7) and these 3 are now behind bars - if that's true, then it's a rather slam and shut case... If you believe your actions to be self-defense, you just don't plead guilty.

Either way, common sense of self defense is to keep on walking - turning around and escalating into a confrontation is not a good self defense law...

P.S. The articles are written poorly - no basic rule of five "W's" is followed... In good old days of field of journalism was more selective and people actually wrote well balanced articles, five W's had to be met in the introductory paragraph - When, Who, Why, Where and for What reason... The art is now lost, making web-articles derivative dribble that you have to read and re-read to try and grasp the content, turning the five w's into a constant WTF.
