When the troops from Iraq do come home (or probably get sent to Afghanistan),
what are you guys going to do?
Hopefully they won't get treated like the ones that came back from Vietnam...hippie tards...

You are too kind on the hippies by calling them "tards' ,,I was on the receiving end of that "treatment".

I think the anti-war crowd has realized that blaming the vets for the policies of the Administration is wrong, and treating the returning vets from Vietnam so disrespectfully was shameful. With the exception of a few idiots, I don't expect it to happen again.

They come home now when their rotation is over right?
Are you talking about a withdrawal, some would say defeat scenario, your question is unclear.
Anyway,
Let us please God hope that we are past that, but I never underestimate the asshattery that can be displayed by the public at large.

Immediate withdrawal, or withdrawal after "the job is done," I just hope our troops aren't treated like they were after Vietnam, that's all.

I will look them in the eye and say thank you for sticking your neck out for us, even for some who don't apprecite what they have, and what you do every day of your service. In Maine, at the Bangor Internaional Airport, there are greeters for just about every military flight that comes in. And every man and woman that is met coming through the gate gets the respect they deserve.
no, they wont be treated like those past in vietnam. well, i can garuntee it locally anyway. some parts of the country like san fran may have a rather large outpouring of ****s. quiet protests and tactfully made signs are okay, hippie on a loud speaker at a pro mil parade and its going to go south.

Of course they won't. Don't be stupid. People don't blame the troops for this mess - most fringe elements of the 'extreme left' have grown out of such nonsense. Time you did too.

i can prob realistically expect some fools will crash funerals and cause trouble at parades and stuff, but that is just wrong. its not the troops fault. they should protest in wash DC if anything. much respect to the troops.
i know people support us now and they will definitely support us in the future but i dont see us coming home anytime soon.

I dont understand why you guys care so much. Althou Im a lefty, and have good lefty friends I tend to stumble upon that kind of hippies in parties an ****. They ofcourse taunt me because Im pro the war and military myself, but I never had respect for these people in the first place. Just be proud of of the fact that youve done something that helped or couldve helped.,,. to me that wouldve been enough for my psyche...

Why wait until they come home? There's plenty of ways to show your appreciation -- even if you don't support the Iraq war. Actually, especially if you don't support the war (I don't), remember that unlike during the Vietnam War, these soldiers are 100% volunteer, doing a dangerous job for those of us who can't or won't.
And there are many vets who've been badly wounded and are bravely trying to get their lives back together.
Check this out:

I'm sure your local USO can help you find ways of reaching out to soldiers who are still deployed.

Also, although it's some months away, you can really show your appreciation at your local Veterans Day (http://www1.va.gov/opa/vetsday/) parade.
