A little bit of background info:
My high school's newspaper staff (teachers and students alike) is dominated by liberals, who will take every chance they can to write a long column story about how terrible of a man GWB is, and how the war is going, blah, blah, blah. They even have their own cute little political cartoons about the topic (not Rall-style, but I get the same feeling).
Since they offer a "letters to the editor" page, I kindly wrote to them a few editions back and politely asked them to either put in a somewhat conservative perspective in (to accurately balance out and represent everyone at the school), or to tone down the one-sidedness of it all. On the very next issue there were two or three additional columns shunning me down, and the administrators of the newspaper even wrote in their own column that "there are people on the staff who have conservative opinions, but may not choose to air them."
Well, my common sense tells me that if they won't speak, I will. In addition to that, I even put in an application to write for the newspaper next year, so that people couldn't give me the crap of, "Well, if you don't like it, write it yourself."
About a week ago I found out that the slots for newspaper were selected, and those who were both selected and "not slotted" were given notice. I found out from one of my non-liberal friends on newspaper staff that I was the only applicant who received no response. I was the only one to be "rejected".
Well, one of the writers for the newspaper decided to drop in on my lunch hour to debate me. They approach my table and interrupt my conversation to carry on about politics. This was the same person who I nearly beat to death (but was restrained before any action) a few months back after the National Anthem at a football game.
This person proceeded to swear at me, point his finger in my face, generalize me as a "conservative pigdog", and pitched the biggest crock of **** I'd ever heard in my life. He claimed that the Cold War was a joke, and that we should've allowed the Communists to continue their crusade of world revolution and domination. He also stated that we did the right thing with Rwanda in 1994, and claimed that the "things" Saddam fired at Israel during Desert Storm never hurt anyone. And he concluded at the end of his speech that since I was a conservative, I had ZERO common sense.
I kept my cool, never swore, never raised my voice, never did any namecalling. Fortunately I had weight training as my next class, which allowed me to work out some of my aggression. I just thought that it was quite rude for someone of their stature to come up to me on my time and do that.
Did I do the right thing? What do y'all think? Here's the story about me and this kid before...
