Looks similar to the sight that was integrated into the XM8.

I think it is the same thing, except this is a visible version. Go to the insight website for more details.

So, what's the source of this news?

I find particularly hard to believe the Army is going with the visible laser variant of the ISM when infrared lasers are what's needed and used today.

The source is my buddy deploying with the 10th MD in a few months. ACOGs are short...so everyone else gets these.

We've had these for over a year now. I used to not like them but I have no gripes now. I figured some part of it would break almost as soon as we got in country, but they've held together. I don't think we've had any break as of yet.

Nickless, they have both the IR and the visible laser.

So it's the ISM-IR, ok - at least that makes sense. ;)

How would you compare the red dot to an Aimpoint or (we're probably getting unfair here ;)) an EOTech? And would you say the smaller weight compared to an Aimpoint + AN/PEQ 2 is noticable?

The dot is the same as an Aimpoint, but not comparable to an Eotech. You can deffinately notice the weight difference. With the ISM your weapon is nowhere near as front heavy as it is with the Peq2, even though the PEQ2 is very light. I still chose not to use an ISM though. I don't like having to flip through all the settings on the knob and find the right buttons on the top to press to find what I want - in the dark. I prefer my sight and my laser to be run seperately.
